I`d be really glad to receive advice regarding my initial satnav purchase. As most folks I`m on a budget (around the £200 mark). I like the sound of the Garmin nuvi 300 and the TomTom One. However i also would like the benefits of a GPS speed cam detection set up in something like the Talex unit. Is it possible to get the benefits of both in one unit near to my budget point? Or do I need to buy them seperately. If so what then would you recommend? |

Hi romaniaexpress,
to the forum!
Both the Garmin Nüvi 300 and the TomTom ONE are good SatNav products. I prefer the TomTom ONE because of its GUI and easy of use. Both units can use the PocketGPSWorld camera database, the Garmin Nüvi 300 needs the Garmin POI Loader to use the PocketGPSWorld camera database.
Best thing to do is find a shop that sells tem both (possible Halfords) and ask for a demonstration of both units where you can handle them and try route planning etc.

i was about to suggest the same as privateer but for me the choice would have been the nuvi!
it really does depend on personal preference and what 'extras' you are after. eg, the nuvi has built in jpg photo viewer, travel guide capabilities, mp3 player etc. not really used the tom tom one so can't comment on their features.
what i CAN say though is take everything that halfords et al tell you with a pinch of salt! some of the conversations i over heard the other day made me laugh! seriously though, shops are great to have a play with the units and see which one's interface you prefer, THEN come back here to ask your questions!!
