Once you have backed up your Nuvi and then uploaded the latest firmware (this step may not be necessary) (*), you have two options:
1. You can subscibe and use the Garmin Safety Camara Database.
2. You can subscribe and use the PGPSW camera database.
To answer your question: Yes, the PGPSW database is fully compatible with the whole Nuvi range (actually, pretty much the whole Garmin range) - when you select to download it, select Garmin and then select POI Loader version.
When you download the file, unzip it and then use POI Loader to load it onto the Nuvi - in POI Loader, you should leave it in Express mode, but make sure you change the Speed setting to "Feet and MPH" else you will get some very funny speed alerts.
As for which of the two above databases to use - personally I use the PGPSW database, and haven't even activated my free 3 month subscription to the Garmin one. The PGPSW one seems to have more cameras in it (eg the Garmin one does not include mobile cameras per se), and more frequent updates. On the other hand, the Garmin one would only alert you to a camera that can "get you" in the direction of travel - personally, having many many thousands of mobile camera sites seems more worth it to me.
Also, if you find a new fixed camera that's not in the PGPSW and you report it, you may get your subscription extended for free.
(*) Earlier software versions don't support the Garmin database, and don't support the PGPSW one as well as the latest software. It's best to download it direct from the Garmin website and apply it manually (ie don't use the Garmin WebUpdater). Finally, take a backup before doing this - if it goes wrong, you'll break the Nuvi (normally fixable, but only with a backup) - without the backup, the unit has to go back to Garmin.
Lots of information there - search around this forum, and you'll probably find every other question answered - also, if your traffic unit is a bit flakey, see the massive thread on what you need to do to fix it...! |
