Hi all,
I realise there are several threads similar to this and I have searched but to no avail...I cannot get any thing happening on the Status page on GPS i.e I appear to be recieving no sat. fix at all
The status is this...
I think i've established a connection to the gps as it has a continous blue left light and a flashing green right light. In the bluetooth manager on the PDA I have on the GPS screen tomtom wireless GPS and bluetooth serial port COM8 and the box ticked, on the status it shows the wording TomTom Wireless GPS on the bottom....
any help would be greatly appreciated |

On the Status screen are you seeing dots moving left to right ? If so then you are receiving data, but just not obtaining a fix.
Make sure you do have a clear view of the sky, if you don't get a fix within 3 minutes, move the Bluetooth Receiver outside, as it maybe that you have a UV coated windscreen which is blocking signals. |

I would run WinFast Navigator (if you don't have it already) it's available int he Leadtek tools section of the downloads page.
If you then connect using the CONNECTION menu to COM8, 4800 NMEA and then tap OK, and switch to VIEW | DEVELOPMENT you should see data coming through. If you don't see anything, either the GPS has been switched to another baud rate, or there's a major problem.
To switch it back, you can go into the COMMAND menu option then goto NMEA tab, change BAUD RATE to 4800 and tap OK, then go back to the DEVELOPMENT screen to check for data.
You may want to uninstall the TomTom ~ GPS driver if you have GPS 2.08 installed (TTN2.24) as this will stop other applications talking to a Bluetooth GPS Receiver (including WinFast Navigator). |

Thanks for your help on this Dave...
ok so I've got NMEA/Serial 5 COM5: Baud rate 4800 and I got streams of data on the screen. So this means the connection is ok??? Should these values be the same as the ones in the NMEA tab in the command menu? |

As you are receiving data, it means the GPS is possibly okay, but it does mean you have the right settings. If you are not receiving a fix (4 or more green sats) in the Navigator screen in WinFast Navigator, it means you're not getting enough good data back. This can be due to having a UV protected windscreen, or a windscreen with a heater coil running through it, or it could still mean a faulty GPS.
I would stand outside for 15 mins and see if you ever see more than 4 sats go green in WinFast Navigator. It is possible it is still attempting a factory fix (which can take 12.5 mins or upwards) |

I also had problems setting up the navagator with my ipaq.
the way i got round this is as follows:
1:backup all data from ipaq
2perform hard reset of unit
3:re-install connection to pc
4:re-install tomtom software
5:follow on screen instructions
6:check gps screen without statring tomtom
7:you should now see that the bluetooth gps is assigned to comm port 5
8:establish connection with GPS unit as instructed by tomtom(on the software disk)
9:Start tomtom and you should now be able to recive a signal.
This was acheived after several hours of frustrated playing.
Good Luck!! |
