I've just bought a TomTom ONE GB v2 and I have not yet found a way to get it to 'store the route I just drove'.

I'll explain; I bought the TomTom for several reasons, but one was to help me check my speed - I want it always to be on to help me make sure I stick to the speed limits on my normally routes (eg, to and from work).

I guess I want to put it into 'record' mode and then when I get to work, store it as an 'itinery' - is it possible?

Not as standard...

But there are some aftermarket trackers that you can load. Try this for starters...

And very good it is too :D Latest version, installed but not yet tried, says it will save as kml for loading into Google.

Do you actually NEED to 'record' your route then?

Here's how it works for me...
Leave home,
"Work" is already stored as a "Favourite" (God, how that annoys me every time! Laughing ), so tap "Navigate to.." / "Favourite" / "Work".
TomTom decides its route.
Whenever I deviate from its own route, because I know better, it automatically recalculates for the road I'm on (in about 3-5 seconds).
All camera alerts work as normal.

Isn't that what you want?

Hi

can you tell me please, will this program work on a TT910. I am a Driving Instructor where i take different routes for different courses. I have tried Itinery planning, but with no road names or numbers it can be difficult.
If i could run the route and save it for future use, that would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance.

In that case, IMO you are going about this the wrong way, especially if you want to ensure that individual routes cover the whole test run in total Twisted Evil

Get a copy of Autoroute or some such, plan your routes, then save those to eg an axe file which can be converted to an ITN file, although there may be a 40 point limit IIRC.

What you are suggesting is only a good idea if you don't know the routes you want to use, or want to try out new routes without planning them.

Hi

Thanks for your replies.

If i may explain what i need then you may be able to help me more.(stupid here).
I do advanced driving instruction and go from say Essex to Norwich. Some students need particular road types and some need others.
I need to be looking at the roads due to the speed we travel at.

If i did as you mention with either Tripmaster or Autoroute file conversion could i either set a route or drive a route and program it for use another time.

I have tried the Itinery way, but when you look at a map and choose the route, it is a problem with no road names, i.e. on small B roads.

If this is possible, then my life would be so much easier.

Many thanks.

With Autoroute, you could manually plot your route, selecting the roads you want by placing points on the map, save and then convert to itn for use on the TomTom. You would need to check if I'm right about the 40 waypoint limit given the distance you are travelling, as you would probably then need to segment each route; and type of route. There is also the possibility that TT would choose a different route if your waypoinys are too far apart (even on shortest route)!

Tripmaster could save the pre-planning, but I don't think it snaps to roads, and the GPS positioning can be 'off'. You could convert the route file and then edit the waypoints in Autoroute, but you would likely have many more points to edit, and would hit the itn limit pretty quickly.

Personally, I'd go for the effort of pre-planning.

Or may be someone wil come along with a better idea.

Good luck.

Henry

Fraid so, although maybe you could find a slightly older version cheaper. Perhaps you can find a colleague or friend that owns a copy to give it a try first.

Get hold of a free program called itnconv which converts between various formats - Google should find it. There is also another called POI Converter, but ITNConv is clearer to use IMO.

No problem, hope it works out.

POIConverter will only create a POI, it won't maintain the Itinerary Function.;)

Hi Henry

Just brought a copy of Autoroute, loaded it, fine so far.

Used ITN Conv to convert it, still fine.

When i go into Load Itinery in TT, it's there but the location names are all to cock. Things like M*.&7 as a route and so on.

Is that what happens?

Did you type meaningful Names into the Location Information?

If you Right Click a Location, in AR, then Select Show Information, type a Name in the First Line of the Window.

This is what will be displayed as Text when it is converted.;)
