What is the best phone + Sat/Nav combination?

I really like my garmin Nuvi 300, but sat nav integrated with my mobile phone would be great. So if I am buyihng a new phone what are my options? and how good are they? I'd be prepared to pay £400-£500 for the right complete package.

Really a phone with integarted GPS would be my preference.

Anyone really happy with their package? or do I stick with separate GPS and phone?

Thanks, Trevor

The manufacturers haven't really taken this too far as yet have a look at the following though:

MIO A701 (No WiFi built in though)
HTC Artemis (Its got the lot, and happy with it Laughing )
O2 XDA-Orbit (When it comes out - due 27/11/06, should be the same as the Artemis)
T-Mobile MDA Compact III (Its an Artemis with the WiFi disabled)
HP HP6515

Is this one of the ones that you can re-enable using a registry editor or is it permanently knobbled?

Still not too sure on this, it looks the same device as the Artemis but as yet no one has got WiFi working on the T-Mobile Compact III in the UK. T-Mobile Netherlands sell the device with WiFi enabled - but who knows if this is actually the same device under the skin! - Its a shame T-Mobile have chosen this route with 3G connectivity missing dependence upon GPRS for mobile internet is a backwards step, I hope O2 don't follow this lead as the WiFi on the stock HTC Artemis is great for range, and speed - best I have used by far - Mike

Thanks for information. I hadn't seen the HTC Artemis, I really like the look of it. It's a pity no shop close has one so I can actually hold one before I buy but I think I will take the plunge anyway.

Just out of interest, has anyone used a sat-nav phone mounted on the air vent in the centre console? Is the satelite reception good enough as opposed to your traditional sucker mount right next to the window?

Thanks, Trevor

My SiRF III receiver works ok in the glove box or down in the cubby hole beside the gear lever so the phones should work fine using a vent mount!

You can put the Artemis in the glovebox and works quite well (you can't see the screen so there is no point to this other than proving the GPS reception works in difficult conditions).
To be honest the Artemis is sat next to me at the moment with TomTom running it has six sats in use, this is inside a house well away from any windows with the device on the monitor table! - if it works under these conditions I would expect it to work in any vehicle.
My device was supplied with an external aerial in the box (not that I have tried using it as yet) - Mike
