|

Hi, I'm new to this Sat Nav thing. Have just bought a Garmin i3 and it works fine but want to update the on board data to include speed cameras throughout the UK.
I understand that if I subscribe to the site I can download the speed camera database but is it in a format I can load into my unit via the POI loader easily? What is a CSV file?
Do I download a file then navigate to it in the POI loader prog and will it damage any files already loaded on the i3?
help would be appreciated until I get used to the system.
Thanks

O thanks for the replies.
Has this "Dummy" got it anywhere near right.
1.I have to subscribe to get the data base file for speed cameras. No problem will do.
2. Then for ease of installation I choose the file that contains all types of camera.
3. Download to a file where I can point my POI loader already installed from Garmin too.
4. This camera data file may need unzipping? then
5. open Garmin POI loader and browse to camera file and upload to i3.
and thats it if I want to accept all default setting for camera notification/ voice prompts etc.
Dummy questions next.
If I only update the i3 with this camera file does it automatically overright the poi file that is already installed on the device or does it add to it? I dont want to loose this original database unless there is another better to upload ie. the one on your site.
I have a 256 micro sd card installed in the device. Is this where the new files will be put? and the old ones stored or does the i3 have internal memory as well for the original files?
You guys are so knowledgeable and familiar with systems as you have been doing it so long and there is so much to learn without ruining what seems to be a good bit of kit.
thanks rob |

Hi I have switched mine on with out the card and it asks for memory card.
therefore I belive internal memory to be small.
Loading speed camera data is easy and overwrights the prevous entries. It does not affect any other entries.
a usefull site for KFC ect which was not on mine fron new is-
MaFt.co.uk/garmin/download
PLEASE NOTE! not all cameras will be on database.
some will be gone, at times it will warn you of adjcent roads eg 30mph camera on motorway!
I find mine invaluable just to remind me of cameras in swansea after a heavy night!
. best of luck Nigel |
