My Medion Micromaxx has been returned to Medion for repair because the connector socket became damaged. This is the second time in 9 months.
Question:
Is it not possible to wire a charger directly to the battery leads via, say, a 2.5mm jack plug and socket. This could be hot glued/taped to the outside of the unit eliminating the use of the flimsy connector?
I don't need to use the sync cable as the unit syncs perfectly well via infrared with my laptop and I have an SD card reader for large file transfer.
If the socket becomes damaged again, which it will, at least this way I can still charge the unit for everyday use.
I've spent hours on google, but can't find what the 5? wires on the battery are for.
And remember, you saw this idea on here. Cos nobody else on the internet seems to have done it already ;-)

I guess you use it oermanently in car?
You could leave the connector in place and do not remove it, which is just the same idea.

What, and risk the chance of having my car windscreen put through by some druggy waster the first time I leave the car un-attended. I think not. That's why I bought a POCKET PC, that's where it lives, in my POCKET 
I am in the UK  Sat Navs are very desirable by druggies.
I would have thought by your website business, you for one could have come up with a more reasonable suggestion. Thanks anyway

Did you actually read the question or did you mean the 'Medion Connectors are pathetic'?

I've successfully re-soldered the multi pin connector back on two MDPPC150 units. I've been soldering for 23 years but it was hard work as the pins are very small and the solder pads very close together.
It seems the power supply to the PDA is via a group of pins either side of the connector. eg Positive on the left hand side and Negative on the right (looking into the connector with screen facing upwards).
I think it would be possible to solder a small connector to enable you to at least charge the PDA. |

Anybody know what kind of connectors they use on the Medion MDPPC150 for charging/syncing?
I've got another unit i could fix if i can get hold of another connector. |

Hi Everyone,
Seems like quite a few people are damaging the sync/charge connector on their PDA. So if you've damaged the sync/charge connector on your MDPCC150 or Mio 168 (maybe others) i've found a spare part for you.
Ebay item number: 120044750160
It'll require a bit of soldering skill to replace it, i've done 2 already. Solder braid and a fine tipped soldering iron are a must for this job.
Magnifying glass might also be useful as these pins are 0.5mm apart.

Cheers wakko, looks like were finally getting somewhere.
My repaired device should be delivered tomorrow (Tuesday).
[By shear coincidence, Parcel Line UK have just text my phone to tell me it WILL be delivered tomorrow]
I'm still not happy at the thought of opening it up and delving about in it whilst it's still in warranty. I might try buying a spare/repair with a part broken screen and have a tinker with that.

I've got photo's of the solder pads on the circuit board on my website. There in front of the connector, not either side, screen face down. That is, on my motherboard. I cracked, got the multimeter out and turned into a technical freak for an hour.
Not tested.
But it's looking good.

| I had the same dodgy connection problem last year . I did find the pin-out diagrams and had a go at re-soldering the connector tails , not easy and not recommended . Adding charging leads is a fine solution , especially if you don't need any data transfer and/or the data pins are still ok . A bodge that works well for me , easy to try and leaves the case unchanged , is to cut and shape a piece of hard rubber ( pencil eraser ) , place it ontop of the connector soldered pads and tighten the case down so that the rubber wedge is pressed firmly against the soldered connections . It sounds daft but it fixed mine and may be worth trying if you don't fancy hard wiring the charging leads . |
