TT 5 onto Axim x51v

Just got the new x51v to replace my old x5.
Nice bit of kit BUT it wont connect to my wired in Garmin GPS.
The x5 still works fine with the Garmin so I know its not that at fault.
Strangley the x51v fired up first time with a CF GPS card, took me ages to get that to work on the X5.
Ive tried playing with all the setiings and done the registry mod but no joy.
Anyone got any ideas please as I like the fact that I can leave the wired in unit on so get a fix as soon as I plug in the PDA.
