Hello!
I have a Holux GPS Slim 236 and I'm planning on using it inside an armoured car. Does anyone know if it would work inside an armoured car as good as it would inside a normal car? Or would it not even get any signal at all? Would the thicker glasses and metal reduce the signals the GPS receives in a considerable way that I should consider buying an antenna? Has anyone experienced this?
Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gustavo |

The 236 is pretty good at pulling in a signal, I would give it a try before bothering with any external connection, to give it a help let it acquire a signal before putting it in the vehicle, if you have a GPS status page within the software monitor it to see how much the signal degrades when introduce it to the car - Mike |

It should be fine - the problem is not so much the thickness or tinting of the glass, but rather the heat reflective metalic coatings they put on some glass. If you do get reception problems then try putting the receiver behind the inside rear view mirror where they often have a non coated area.
Go on, tell us why you are going to be driving around in an armoured car then. 8) _________________ Gone fishing! |

Thanks for the prompt answers!
I'll give it a try then before ordering an antenna. I'll have my car back from the armour garage within 1 month and then I'll post it back here if it there's a great signal loss or not.
Skippy, I wish I didn't have this problem, but where I live security has now became a major concern. Armoured car is not luxury, it's a necessity.
Thanks! |

If your armoured car is bullet proof top to bottom then I doubt any signal will get through. _________________ Pc-Mobile

An external antenna seems ideal for this situation. They aren't too expensive either. I got one just so I would have a better chance at getting WAAS reception, and it really does get a stronger signal. Even if have the receiver on the roop vs receiver/external antenna, the external antenna gets noticibly stronger signals than the internal patch antenna. |
