|
|
I have just received this information for users of "old" PDA equipment:
Quote: | Dear Mr Hawkstar,
Thank you for your question about the availability of an upgrade from TomTom Navigator 5 to TomTom Navigator 6.
TomTom strives to always offer high quality products that keep up with the trends and demands of the market. We have taken a commercial decision to meet the fast moving PDA/mobile market by developing NAVIGATOR 6 to work with new handheld devices that have more memory and processing power to run new features, compared to the previous generation of products. The sophistication of the software advances in NAVIGATOR 6 mean that only a select group of current MOBILE and NAVIGATOR users would be able to run NAVIGATOR 6. As a result, TomTom will not be able to run a full upgrade programme for all existing MOBILE 5 and NAVIGATOR 5 devices.
Existing MOBILE 5 and NAVIGATOR 5 customers will continue to have an excellent navigation experience and they will be able to upgrade to new maps as these are made available to TomTom customers.
For users of compatible devices, NAVIGATOR 6 can be purchased from the low price of Euro 99 (this includes a pre-programmed miniSD card and adapter containing a map of their region and the major roads of Western Europe),
There are also 2 other potential products:
A pre-programmed 1GB miniSD card and adapter containing a full detailed map of Western Europe at €159,-
A DVD containing full detailed maps of Western Europe at €129,-
We hope to have answered your question
Should you have any questions or suggestions, please let us know.
Kind regards,
TomTom Customer Support Team |
Does anyone know if the maps for sale on the TomTom website are worth shelling out for or do I stick with what I have?
I am running Navigator 5 on an iPAQ 2210.
Cheers. |

Where can I get Navigator 6 for €99? All I can see on the TomTom website is the full maps of Europe package which costs €129. |

Cheers. | Have you read this thread? There seems to be a large discrepancy between "supported" & "working"! _________________ Jock

So does this mean there is not going to be an upgrade program for PDA users at all, irrespective of whether your device can cope with V6 or not? _________________ TomTom Go 520, HTC Wildfire with CoPilot Live Premium UK & CoPilot Live Standard USA |

the current latest maps are not compatible. But TomTom will come out with newer maps that will be compatible with TTN5 _________________ Lutz

Do you know when they plan on doing this? It must've been over a month since I first heard of their plans. Surely it would be quite simple for them to modify the maps to work on v5 - I doubt there would be major changes to the map structure (though I might be wrong). |

I am also a TTN5 user and my PDA (Tungsten E2 less than a year old) will not run TT6.
When will the new maps be available? |

are you saying tomtom will slice their statement below even more?

Maybe the "free updates to the TomTom software" will be to TTN5 to make it compatible with the new maps rather than to new features which are in TTN6. That would be consistent with TT's statement of not providing an UPGRADE to TTN6 but MIGHT provide some improvement to TTN5.

Will it work in reverse? That is, can TT6 be used with TT5 maps (thinking about TT5 Europe maps I have but only use once or twice a year) _________________ Brian Abbott

If we get up-to-date maps for TT5, Whoopee! If they are free or not it will suit me just fine. My PDA will run TT6 but no thanks. TT6 can do nothing that TT5 cant (except for a few gimmicks). TT5 with new maps every so often will take some beating. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.
