|
|
Just upgraded from a Navman 510 to a Navman 530 and like a lot of us with the Navman 530’s and the TMC TRAFFIC module (T1), I was not getting any signal at all with the Navman supplied aerial, all it did was scan for ever….very disappointing considering the quality of the Sat nav with all it functions.
So after reading numerous postings on this subject, with numerous work arounds etc and no real answers (unless you were lucking with the TMC aerial position) the only real answer is an external mag mount (I didn't want an external aerial on my car). So I took the route of connecting the 530/T1 aerial connector into my car aerial connect, so the T1 used the car aerial. (My car happens to have an inbuilt windscreen aerial and a gain booster, so its was ideal for this work around) I happend to have a Din to phono connector between the radio and the aerial cable, so I just opened up the Din connector and soldered the T1 cable in, obviously after cutting off the (useless) Navman aerial. As soon as I turned the Sat nav on it immediately found Classic FM and started to download the traffic updates within minutes.
As I will be using the Sat Nav in my other cars I have decided to make up some new portable internal aerials which happen to have a 12V DC boosters inbuilt (very similar in size aerial to the Navman on). This should solve the inadequate Navman aerial signal issue. These can then be hidden behind the sunvisiors etc.

Hi
Like you I have been looking for an alternative interior aerial for the T1 which can be transferred to different cars. Please can you confirm whether or not the interior booster has a 12V adapter fitted.
Many thanks

Hi Grayi,
Sorry to be a pain and ask the same question again; is there a 12v plug already connected to the aerial? Also how long are the cables? I have a Toyota Previa and it is a long way to the windscreen from the power socket.
Thanks

Hi
Scrolling through the link for the aerial came across a tax disc type with dual band. Autoleads PC6-502 £14.99. I have just fitted the other type. It dose need a power 12v supply and either needs to be grounded (earth) via the braded cable with a self tapping screw or run (as in my case) a return lead, attached to the brade, then to a negative. Ie another 12v cig type plug, with the + going to the red amp cable, the – going to the brade.
In my case fitted it inside a caravan. Did not want to fit an external aerial.
Regards
