|
|
My Mio168 has recently stopped communicating with PCs. When connected, I get the message:
USB device not recognised. On of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognised it.
I get the same behaviour on three different machines. I've done hardware resets, and reinstalled ActiveSynch, but it sounds more fundamental than software.
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be causing it, and whether it is likely to be reparable?
Thanks,
Benedict |

Have you tried a different cable?

Ensure that Activesynch is started on the Medion before you connect the USB cable - this is the only way I can get it to connect on mine... |

As you have the Mio for a long time so I should think you know what to do.
I suspect your cable is faulty. There is nothing else you could do if that is the case. _________________ Pc-Mobile

Thanks for the replies. I did buy a new cable, to no avail, and having done a hardware reset, there is no activesynch on the Mio to start before connecting!
If it is a h/w problem, is it likely to be reparable? Is the USB h/w a separate part of the electronics, or is everything so integrated that it really means a new machine? Are there any UK repairers anyone has used?
Thanks for suggestions,
Benedict |

How old is your 168? Don't forget they came with a 2 year guarantee. There was a known problem with the connector inside the unit breaking.
If yours is less than 2 years old contact your supplier who should arrange a free repair.
Be aware that you will have to re-activate your maps on the 'new' unit. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Hi, I may have the soloution to your problem as this happened to my Medion 9500(same as the mio) about 2 years ago. I just used it as a GPS from then on but then it stopped charging as well so it was time to investigate.
The fault was physical. the small connector block had come free of the PCB.
I decided as I had nothing to loose that I would clean the connections and re solder it in place. Now beware, this is nano tech and it was done with a 10x eyepiece and a ground down soldering iron (still covered 4 contacts at once)
When I was sure that no two contacts were shorting I reassembled it and plugged it in......... Voila not only charging but sync ed with the pc.
Chuffed to bits :D |

Mine came with a three year warranty from Aldi, but my dad bought one from Kwiksave and when he called recently to enquire about a repair was told that it only had a 30 day warranty when bought there |

Activesynch is built in to the operating system - it will be in the Programs folder from the Start menu |

It's a known problem with the connector on the Mio 168 and Mio will repair or replace the device. The Kwiksave guarantee has nothing to do with the Mio guarantee and cannot take away your rights. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
