Ok - I found out how to get it :

http://www.tomtom.com/plus/services/mds.php

But £40+! My TTM5 with Tomtom GPS + GB map only cost £70 new!

Still if it means my wife and I have a 3rd party to blame...

So with GB and France map I can seamlessly drive my new Bentley to Montel Carlo? Right?

No, not seamlessly, to do that you'd need GB+ or France+.

So if I have GB map and a French map i can't drive to the south of France without "changing" maps? I'm absolutely new to this but eager to learn!

So how do i "Change" maps when I get to France?

Also if I splash out on the TTM5 "Western European Maps" I see advertised will this give me a seamless drive? I hate the thought of "changing" maps on a long drive!

If you reside in GB then install the GB map and the FRance plus map. Before setting off for France select the France plus map and input your destination, you will now be guided over the Major Roads of Europe through GB to the Ferry port and once in France have street level ready for your onward journey. For your return select Home. Your Home on the France plus map may not be on one of the 'Major Roads' but it won't be too far away.

NB The plus maps have Street level for that Country plus Major Roads of Europe.

Many thanks for that really excellent explanation!

Since I want street level whichever country I'm in I will need to switch maps - something to do on the Ferry!

As a newbie I expected TomTom to detect which country I'm in and automatically switch maps...

By using the street level GB map you will only get an estimated time of arrival at the Ferry/Tunnel, by using the France plus map you'll get an ETA for your destination.

You could set up an itinerary, Main Menu page 2 of 3, providing you have a lock on at home. E.g. If you are travelling to Grasse you would enter Grasse, in the France plus map, as your destination. You cold then add via's say Channel Tunnel, Folkestone, and maybe an overnight stop at Lyon. These via's can be set as destinations (where you will be told you have reached your destination), or waypoints (which you pass through). You can save the intinerary for the day you travel or for the same journey another time.

Don't let Major Roads of Europe fool you, you'll be surprised at just how many roads there are.

Now thats a lot better. I was fooled by the thought of "major roads" being motorways and A roads with everywhere else being blank. That probably explains the size of the France maps - they are much bigger even taking size of country into account.

So I need a France+ map.
Then I select it.
Then put in the vias.
Then drive to the Channel Ferry.
Once on the other side I have the street detail I need.

The return trip is detailed to the Channel and then major roads to home.

Good guess with Lyon and Grasse. That was my last trip!

Many thanks for help and I hope other newbies will benefit.

Then put in the vias.
I may not have made myself clear, looking back at what I said previously. (It was the early hours)

If you use Navigate to... you can only use ONE via but using itinerary planning, Main Menu page 2 of 3, you can add as many waypoints/destinations as you wish.
