Hi I'm a newbee here so be gentle please, bought a Quest 1 secondhand 10 months ago with City Select V7 update installed. I was also given C.S. version 6 and the C.S. version7 update Cd's complete with all the unlock codes. Installed Mapsource on my computer, had a play.Installed Version7 update and, just to learn how to do it re-uploaded Version 7 to my Quest unit. Everything is fine and has worked as it should. I have now aquired a copy of City Navigator V8 with its unlock code. I have installed CN version 8 on my computer and unlocked it with the code I was given, there seemed to be no problem, I can view the unlock codes using the wizard. However when I go to upload maps to my Quest I get a window telling me the maps I want to upload are not unlocked. Any ideas or thoughts would be most welcome. |

The unlock code of CN8 does not match your Quests serial number. There is one unique unlock code per map/gps combination.
/me hopes you didn't pay for the CN8 map... or can get your money back... _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

Hi Robert, thank you for your reply. Can i assume if you purchase CN8 from Garmin/Mapquest they need to know the serial number of your unit to supply the unlock code?. The reason I ask this is, when I entered the unlock code I was given a window appeared stating CN8 maps were now unlocked . Regards Andy. |

There are *two* places the maps can be unlocked: on the computer (i.e. in Mapsource) and on the GPS receiver.
For unlocking on the computer (where you got the popup window) *any* valid unlock code for that map product is okay (but not legal...). So, if you want to see City Navigator v8 NT on your computer, you can use *my* unlock code (which is illegal though).
But, on the GPS, the unlock code needs to match that specific GPS receiver and the map product. A unique code.
The symptoms you are describing look like you have a valif but non-matching unlock code.
Please contact Garmin to get this sorted out.
BTW: the only way to get a matching code is to upgrade via the Garmin website, entering the v6 customer code as a reference. _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )
