|
|
hi
just spent first few days with traffic activated on my tomtom ONE. mixed results!! how frequently should the updates be set to. i had them at 15mins but then got concerned at download costs. i'm with orange, receive 3mb downloads per month and drive for 6 hours a day. after first 2 days, data counter on phone shows 321202 B of data received and 100486 B of data sent. how does this equate to my monthly allowance of 3mb???
advice much appreciated.

Hi Tony,
Exact Conversion
1,024 Byte = 1 Kilobyte (KB)
1,024 Kilobyte (KB) = 1 Megabyte (MB)
So from your figures, I would say you have used a little over 10% of your allownce. _________________ Steve

Aw Darn, you beat me to it Steve,
I was just off doing the math
You're quite right with your answer in that Tony has used approx 10% of his allocation.
In broad terms Tony, your 3MB allocation is 3,000,000 bytes and you have used 321,202 bytes so you have 2,678,798 bytes left.
Phew, bit early in the morning for math |

thanks guys for conversions. from this, in order to keep within my allowances, should i extend update periods to say 45 mins?? or will this negate its accuracy too much?
ps accuracy so far i have found to be patchy to say the least! |

Tony,
I had the impression from another thread that the updates were really small and people never got anywhere near their 3MB limit.
I'll see if I can find the thread.

I would say you're frequency of update needs to depend on the type of roads you are on and the length of time you are on the them.
If you have used approx 10% in only two days then technically you should use your allownce in a typical four week month....
Heres the Maths again boys!
2 days = 10%
Therefore:
1 day = 5%
5 days (one week) = 25%
One month (typically 4 weeks) = 100%
Ok, so that wasn't so difficult....
Like I said, you'll find it a personal thing on frequency...
Me? I do my morning update, and if it looks clear, then I'll stick it to refresh every 30 minutes.. if theres evidence of congestion, then I put it on 15.
Thats also assuming you're not using your allownace for surfing...
I would give it a go for a month, if you go over, then up your limit... but TBH, I reckon you should be okay!! _________________ Steve
