WM2005 Performance

I have an HP iPAQ HX4700 which is running WM2005. The HP patch/firmware 2.01 has been applied and the PDA has been running fine. Now however performance/responsiveness is terrible, I've installed a couple of apps but the PDA seemed fine after they were installed. The problems are apparent when selecting Windows Mobile menus/click an icon/use an app, there's a noticeable lag (3 secs or so) before the next menu/applet/function will fo what it's meant to do this is without any other running programs on the PDA. As an example

Is there anything else I can check or try before I start removing the applications that have been installed. Note: The last app I installed was Sprite Backup 5.1.0.

Have a look at how much memory the device has remaining Start/ Settings (System Tab) Memory, while in that screen also check the "Running Programs" tab, if there are loads of applications still running in the back ground select Stop ALL and see if this improves the situation - Mike

Check out SKtools and the optimization settings. Specifically increasing the file cache improves matters hugely. A common issue with WM5 over WM2003 due to its changed way of handling files.

Go back to the rom version 1.10 and firmware 1.10. It runs amazingly.

I tried the WM5 rom and hated it. HP seems to have taken the rubbish slow onboard ram used for the iPAQ file store and repurposed it for running the system and installed apps. Very bad move.

I'm sure that your machine is now slow due to this idiotic move from HP.

Go back to 1.10, you will be a happy bunny!

Many thanks for the advice. I've removed one app which did install into the PDA memory and removing that has made a significant difference. However I have noticed TomTom can be very slow initially once it's started though this may be related to the Bluetooth GPS. With the Bluetooth GPS switched off performance is good, with it on and acquiring satellites, TomTom can be quite unresponsive.
