Motorists warned of temporary speed limit during A2/M25 road works
Motorists are advised that there is a temporary 50mph speed limit on the A2/M25 between Dartford and Bean during a major improvement scheme. For the safety of both motorists and the work force the Highways Agency (who are carrying out the works) have asked the Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership to enforce its 50mph limit with average speed (SPECS) safety cameras.
SPECS (SPEed Check Enforcement System) is a digital safety camera system providing point-to-point speed enforcement based on calculation of average speed.
The works, which are due to finish in 2008, include new roads to link the northbound A282 and the eastbound A2. New lanes will be built on the A2 westbound for traffic joining the M25 going south and a fourth lane will be added in each direction on the A2 between the M25 and Bean junction.
Motorists are reminded that the temporary 50mph speed limit – which is clearly signed – applies at all times of the day and night including weekends whether workmen are on site or not. This is for a number of reasons:
* Enforcing the speed limit during the day but not at night will only confuse motorists, and there will be some nights when contractors will be working at the roadside with heavy machinery.
* Even if traffic cones or workmen are not on site over night there may still be ramps where the road is unfinished.
* Temporary road surfaces may have low skid resistance – coupled with poor
weather conditions this could prove dangerous.
* There may be no road markings (white lines), hard shoulder or cat’s eyes.
* Drivers may be hesitating if junctions or turnings have been temporarily closed.
Rachel Moon Communications Manager for the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership said: "We have been asked by the Highways Agency to enforce the 50mph limit to protect both motorists and the workmen on site. We urge all drivers to respect the temporary speed limit until the works are complete. The message is clear - slow down or run the risk of getting a speeding ticket."
For further information about the road works, please contact the Highways Agency southeast Press Office on 01306-878442 or 01306-878110. |

I rode through there this afternoon but my RIDER was in 'Safety' mode so I couldn't record the locations. I'm back that way on Friday so will see what I can do then. _________________ Tim |

That has to be the worst acronym EVER!
I'd have thought "Speed Camera Averaging Method" would be a more appropriate name. |

Should be easy to mark ... it is at the exact start of the M25 on the south side of the Bridge/Tunnel, going across the A2.
One point to note, and I have phone the Partnership. One of the specs camera's is 200m AFTER the de-restict speed sign. So in theory if you hit 70mph this could put your average speed up. They are going to correct this. I was told by Chris Rogers of the partnership that you would NOT get a ticket and if you did write in. I explained to him that I stuck to 50mph and had somebody in my boot as I did not want to get done and would not increase my speed until pass the 2nd camera. |

But as the roadworks go up to Bean Interchange, there is at least one set on each carriageway of the A2 as well. I saw one on the A2/Bean exit travelling east and one on the A2/M25 sliproad travelling west. I'm assuming that there are more on the main carriageways, too. _________________ Tim |

dont be fooled by the roadworks, i live in bean i posted the speed camera location within hours of them being erected and after speaking to the police station at dartford, there are NO plans for removing them after the roadworks finish, also they are NOT there to protect the workforce as the workforce at present resides in the adjacent fields to the A2 where thay are starting the road widening, if the safety issue was really the case then the cameras would not be turned on until the workforce actualy started work on the main road. The cameras are there simply because the local police authority have done their math. Bluewater is know the most commuted to shopping centre in the country with main access via a lovely straight stretch of motorway i see a way to make even more money from the poor motorist. Be warned SPECS cameras are here to stay in kent and they will multiply faster than rabbits!! |

So TRUE!!
although its not so bad later in the afternoon, the best sport at the moment is to sit in the middle lane doing a constant 52mph and watch the idiots driving old escorts etc desparate to overtake everyone, obliviously doing 60mph!! god do i wish i could cream of even 1% of the revenue collected/stolen from the poor motorists.
ps.
has anyone noticed the gatso near blackprince london bound? nice of the police to hide it behind that very bushy tree, legally they are supposed to be visable but that tree has been hiding a secret from atleast may. Everyday i have seen some poor sucker contribute to the policemans ball. |
