I picked up a Navman PiN570 in PC World last week for £79.99 as it seemed too good a bargain to miss. The major problem I have is that, living in Northern Ireland, I'm driving round in a grey blob until I reach Belfast when I then get some street maps and see where I'm going.

I'm impressed with the unit and it's ability to pick up a fix fairly quickly even at this northern latitude and keep a good lock but it's no use if I can't see the maps. A friend lent me a copy of Destinatior 6 and I've installed it and I'm really impressed with the map detail even out in the wilderness of the Mournes. But I can't get Destinator to see the GPS antenna so before I splash out another £80 on my own copy I need to know if anyone has got it to work.

I followed the TomTom threads and have tried to change the Com settings (COM8, 9600 bps, NMEA) but to no avail. I let Destinator do its own search for the antenna when it checks all available COM ports but still no response.

Has anyone tried this with success?

Would installing an external antenna boost the GPS signal and allow Destinator to find it?

Thanks

Sorted it myself after reading a few more topics in here about antenna and GPS signal set up.

Destinator 6 has to be the product of choice for anywhere in Ireland, north or south. The detail is superb and every road from motorway to cart track is displayed.
