C510E Newbie questions

Hi,
Just bought this 510e and done most of the mods on here(thanks guys) but cant seem to find out how to do the following

1.Save a regular journey as a favourite

2.Save my Current gps position (wherever I am at the time)as a favourite

3.Save Itinary Routes


I think favourites are saved as pois but cant fathom it out.Too used to TomTom and Garmin me thinks

Any help appreciated

Hi DracUK.

1.
You've probably worked out by now that the Mio doesn't use favourites as we're used to, except for 2 locations, I use Home & Work.
You have to use the POI function. Different I know, but works all the same.
In Map mode, type in the address you wish to store as a POI (Favourite),
the Mio will then calculate the route and show you the destination on the map but it automatically switches back to cockpit mode. Switch back to Map mode and select 'Add POI' from the menu at the bottom.
You can also set up different categories within the POI groups eg. Friends, Family, Work, Useful etc.

2.
To save current GPS position as a 'favourite' is just an extension of the above.
What you have to do is switch to Map made, touch the arrow on the screen (your current GPS position), you will then get a radiating red circle appear on the screen. From the menu that pops up from the bottom select 'Add POI'.
You can then put it in a category that you have already created or create a new category.

This thing does take some getting used to but you will find that it does work well. :D

Hi all,

Ceejay, does this mean that if I go somwhere I dont know and I want to remember the location of my car: ie in a car park or if out in the wilds with my camera, then this is how I should do it and when I want to go back to the car just tap on that location.

That would work.
Just remember, only in Map mode.
Took me a while to figure this unit out completely, but now all is good. :D

Hi Dil.

Just had a thought.
Although your device will show you where your car is, it probably won't calculate a route back to it if you're 'off road'.
Bear in mind it is primarily an 'in car navigation system'.
I would suggest you try it out before you 'lose your bearings' on your next trip, just to be sure.

I hope your right but I have my doubts.
I have navigated to a couple of places where it has told me my destination is in an unreachable area.
If that's the case I can't see the software calculating a route in an unreachable area.
I hope I'm wrong, but it's not a feature I've tried out fully yet.
I was just trying to stop Dil losing his car. . :D

It doesn't need to calculate a route across a carpark. It only needs to show where the car is, and his current position. But the 'keep to road' option needs to be switched off.

Hi all and thanks for the replies, it was due to the "pedestrian" mode that I asked as this was one of the features that caught my eye when I decided to buy one. If I go to a strange town and park in a car park I can hardly ever remember where the thing is even though I look for a large shop or something nearby to remind me, at the same time when out with my camera I can walk for miles, so it would be handy then aswell to be able to find my way back to the car, so obviously thought "pedestrian"
should do the job but wouldnt have thought about sallyann`s advice to turn off the " keep to road" option, so thanks for that sallyann.

I will be glad when they have sorted out the speedcams database though
as then this device will be top-notch. I dont feel confident enough to do the workaround some of you have done.
