I downloaded the latest software (22-7-06) and loaded it onto my Tom Tom 300. Over the last couple of days I have passed Gatsos which are still there but do not show up any longer on Tom Tom (They showed on the previous download).
Three of the four Gatsos which are in close proximity on the A616 from Stocksbridge to Langset where the A616 joins the A628 Woodhead Rd no longer show. One does.
Also one of the Gatsos on the northbound (To Stone) A51 at Weston has gone awol?.

All these cameras show on the 2006 AA atlas, and as I say were all on my previouse download.

Have any of you lot come accross a similar problem?.
Am I doing something wrong?.
Any comments would be appreciated?.
Regards
John

Welcome

Well spotted! There was a similar problem discovered recently read this thread for info.

The best thing to do is probably to resubmit them with a note that the cameras were deleted when they still exist. Confused

Thanks Skippy.
Did not get the camera co-ordinates (bit new to this caper). Is there a way I can e-mail the info in or shall I just hang on. Presume they will be spotted and advised by others and show on the next update.

No, please don't presume that someone else will report it! Take a few minutes to figure out where they are and resubmit them.

You could try reloading the old database and check the map to find out what the camera numbers were then resubmit them that way. Alternatively, there is a map on the submissions page where you can pinpoint the camera locations if you remember where they were.

I'm not sure what the policy is about mistakenly deleted cameras, but if you report some that were deleted in error then they may extend your membership to lifetime for free (if you don't already have this).

I have great reservations about any recording of your position via an application, and then automatically submitting it.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are a great tool to remind you which ones you need to report, but to ensure the best quality of data, I think that it is always worth the extra effort to carefully find the location on the electronic map - which is not subject to inherent GPS errors, or errors caused by not pressing the button at exactly the right time, or even the application not being able to tell exactly where you are (at best your position is only supplied once a second by the GPS receiver, and that is before any time taken to process that information)

As we are only likely to be providing a few cameras at a time, the additional work is not too onerous, unlike for the poor sods who have to prepare it for the database.

I am sure qualifying comments about the position and your certainty about the camera position/type would also help.

Mmm, I suggested this a little while back too. They need a rating of 1-5 to rate your certainty somewhere between "I stopped at the site (safely), checked that I had a good fix and recorded the position" through to "There's definately one somewhere down that road but I not 100% sure exactly where".

As it stands, I think there are trusted people who go to the sites to verify the location and they take the time to record it accurately. Certainly I reported one which was about 30 feet away from reality (but still within the lines marked on the road) and they had adjusted it when they added it to the database.

Our version of camera heaven would be for everyone submitting a camera to put individual comments against them.

We have so many submissions in the database that it is sometimes difficult knowing what is intended with no comments it is sometimes impossible to work out that a Gatso has been removed and a Monitron put up etc... We often get conflicting reports of camera removals and types and speed limits etc...

I find that it can sometimes take 10 minutes to process one submission, and we get over 100 a day Sad

Mike

It would appear that you are one of the 'poor sods' .

Well whenever I send in details I will continue to add as much detail as I can.

And just in case anyone else asks , or it is suggested that I am trying to get something (as it has been suggested before) - I already have a lifetime membership (from the beginning), but I don't consider that an excuse for not continuing to contribute.

They have to be logged a number of times, by different contributors, for confirmation. Therefore, they can take a little while to appear.

You'll get an email to confirm that your submission has been received, but the files won't be updated until the next release. There's nothing to stop you adding them to your copies.

In Browse Map you locate the Camera position on the Map. Tap the Cursor Icon (At the bottom of Screen, Blue with a Crosshair). Then Tap Add as POI | Select the Category and then change Text as necessary. Finally Done.

Repeat for each location.

Hi Paul,

I have just checked the cameras you sent in and they have all been rejected because the co-ordinates you supplied related to locations in the sea. There did not have enough digits ie 53.12, 2.0.

Did you check the locations on the map on the submissions page?
