Would someone with the Nuvi mains adapter mind checking the output voltage, as i've got a couple of mini usb adapters already (motorola and palm) and was wondering if these would work with the Nuvi as well.
Thanks :D |

Hi
According to the sticker on the mains charger the output is 5V 1.0A (5W).

Thanks for that Nick, don't think they will work the Motorola is 5.0v 550mA and the Palm is 5.2v 0.5A. |

It will do no harm to plug them in and try them. I'm an electronics engineer and work with usb on a regular basis. The nuvi appears to charge whilst plugged into a pc and a PC USB port only delivers 0.5A or on an unpowered hub 0.1A. I dont think 0.1A would be enough to charge the device but 0.5A should be. Just see if you go into charge mode when the device is turned off and if you get a 'charging complete' message. Pressing and holding the time in the main screen to get into the diagnostics will also give you some charging information to confirm.
As for the voltage 0.2V difference should be within the tolerance of the USB spec and will certainly have no adverse effect on the Nuvi. |

Or if you have one of those mains to ciggy lighter transformers Halfords amongst others sell/sold for in car fridges then you can use the original car adapter. |
