Although the i3 is advertised as UK / Ireland only, its well known that some other places in Europe are mapped as well... does anyone know what maps the i3 definitly contains, and in what detail? I have the i3 with the internal memory, and no sd card included. |

Quickest way is to zoom out in map mode - you'll see brown boxes which indicate which detailed maps are installed.
I used my 'UK' i3 in Northern East France (Somme) last week without issues - full detail; fully routable; lots of pre-installed local POI's incl supermarkets, fuel, restaurants, attractions etc. _________________ Garmin i3 gone (sold on eBay)

Nope sorry, even zoomed out fully there are no brown boxes that I can see on my unit, just different coloured lines which represent the roads. Maybe its different on my unit |

I have zoomed right out on my i3 (internal memory, no card) and every country has a brown outline, does that mean I have maps for most of Europe?
Also, whenever I choose Where to? then Address, Select Country always appears with a choice of countries. |

The Base maps are for all of Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Try Where To , City , search by name and type TEHRAN, or CAPE TOWN. Show Map. Dont try navigation simulation.
This sounds great but the base maps are next to useless.
The real usefull maps are for The British Isles (Good) Ireland (Aparantly not so good but the best you can get) and the North coast of France (Good but not as good as UK mapping, agauin probably the best you can get)
The area of France is the north coast from The Belgium Border down to
I think Nantes.
Try where to, city Bayeux. Now see the detail. Pan out and get an idea with the boxes, brown.
THe brown boxes relate to the base maps you have installed, which are by area , you have dozens of them.
You can get some idea by extracting the maps from the GMAPSUPP file using an application called GPSDeamon although it does not extract all the maps and will probably only extract copies in an unusable format.
The base maps for France seem to be the following regions
LILLE
BREST
VANNES
RENNES
LE HAVRE
ROUEN
LEFFRINCKOUCKE
You should probably have the Channel Islands, Isle of Man Shetlands and Orkney Isles mapped too.
Free maps are available for some other areas. Not from Garmin, and possibly not routable. These are found at the cGPSmapper website.
These can be loaded to the I3/C3xx on any SD. (Dont use the standard card, you will overwrite it) with IMG2GPS utility. |

Thought I'd try this myself today. I found all the countries had brown squiggly lines defining them but the British Isles and some of France had straight brown lines which formed box shapes outlining them...that's a rubbish sounding description but it's the best I can do, sorry! |
