Please could PGPSW offer assurance that all moderator intervention is reviewed? An active topic doesn't need locking, especially a thread that is critical of a manufacturer which is subsequently locked by an official distributor of that manufacturer!
The thread might have wandered off topic, but it was active, being contributed to, and represented good-humoured banter. It isn't a moderator's role to determine what can be discussed, surely? We have the manufaturers' websites for that!
May I suggest that PGPSW acts to remain independent and doesn't appoint moderators with vested interests!!
Yes, I'm p**sed!

That is exactly why it was locked.

I can only repeat here my PM reply to you:
"I locked the topic not because what was said about TomTom, but because the last two pages have nothing to do with the subject being discussed. You are very welcome to start another topic with as much criticism of TomTom as you like."

| While I would agree with your concerns about "a thread that is critical of a manufacturer which is subsequently locked by an official distributor of that manufacturer!", I can't accept that the thread was locked for that reason, having just read the last page, I feel that you can see that it was locked because it had gone so far . Whether that is a good enough reason for locking a thread is an entirely different question Other forums I use have a "coffee shop" for off topic/real world discussions. Maybe one could be provided here? _________________ Jock

Without taking sides regarding the locking of a particular thread, I do agree that we need a "Coffee Shop" or "Virtual Bar" forum where we can chat about stuff which isn't strictly GPS related.
How about it? _________________ Gone fishing! |

We have discussed the usefulness of a Off-topic forum many times. In fact, we discuss it at every moderator's meeting. So far we feel that not having an off-topic forum helps our site maintain a relatively high level of content quality. We know from monitoring other sites how much the off-topic threads can pull everything else down.
So - if you need to discuss something off-topic please find a different site for doing that (and stay with us for the GPS related items)
I think I have contributed to the off-topicing (sic) too. Apologies. _________________ Lutz

Well its a very sad day if we can't have a bit of what bedbug rightly called good-humoured banter.
Its allowed and good for all concerned in the workplace which is far more important environment than any internet forum.
What a Victorian attitude. C'mon guys this is the 21st century as you should know from the high tech.stuff this site is dedicated to.
Oh, and just in case you think I'm some young upstart I've nearly 62 years on the clock (and no, my name is not Victor Meldrew). _________________ Nexus 7 (2013) & Nexus 4/Sygic/CamerAlert

That was pretty heavy-handed, Eldar. Breathe some oxygen for a change.
