|
|
Here I am again ... this time it's pairing issues with my Mio C710. I'm going barmy trying to get my PC and Mio to pair up. Every time I try to link the two I am asked for a Passkey or Bluetooth Pin Code and, as these don't appear in the packaging or documents of either the Mio or the Belkin V.2 dongle I am at a loss as to where to look.
Please can someone help save my sanity ... I've tried to force pairing by creating a password on one device then using the same one on the other device but this doesn't work! |

Hi freddie34.
Is the blue LED flashing on the side of your unit?, the one below the power light.
If it isn't your bluetooth on the Mio is not switched on.
Go to the bluetooth menu from any of the map screens and tap the Bluetooth icon. This should switch it on.
Here's what I do to pair my Mio with my PC.
Open Bluetooth software (I use Bluesoleil).
Click on My Bluetooth then Bluetooth device discovery.
When the bluetooth finds your device, double click on the device.
I then get the passkey info appear on the Mio.
Enter your own passkey. (I use 4 digits).
Once you've done that you get a box appear on your PC giving you 30 seconds to enter the same passkey on your PC.
Once that is done you will then be able to communicate with your Mio.
Hope this helps.

Hmm, mine goes the other way around.
I enable bluetooth on the mio, go to quickconnect" (as it is on my pc).
Then my pc bluetooth software asks me to type in a passkey, when I have done that the passkey entry screen appears on the mio. I repeat whatever I have typed in and hey presto they talk!
The passkey is whatever you want it to be, as long as you enter the same one on both machines it doesn't matter what it is. _________________ Cheers,

Hi CeeJay,
I have tried this method several times over but I get a message stating 'Pairing failed' ... I have tried different procedures but none work. Since I purchased the Belkin dongle, Blue Soleil does not identify the dongle so I use the Belkin software. Interesting to note that my other BT dongle, V 1.2, came with Blue Soleil software but that didn't work either! |

Sorry, I hadn't read your previous posts fully. I've got a belkin too. As you say, the bluesoleil software doesn't work with it.
All I do is
Right click on the bluetooth icon at bottom right
"Start bluetooth devide"
Quick connect
File transfer
Windows CE
If it isn't there, I go to file transfer - other devices, ensure the mio's bluetooth is on (nothing more), then I refresh. I then get a text box appear above the bluetooth icon telling me that a passkey is required. I lefty click on this once and I type in my deisred passkey. Once I have done this the mio's screen automatically flips to a keybord for me to enter the passkey. _________________ Cheers,

Have you tried uninstalling the Belkin software? I've found with my Bluetake adaptor that BlueSoliel only needs installing. When I had the Bluetake software installed it just messed up the connection. _________________ Reg |

It's very important that you don't have two sets of BT drivers installed, otherwise they will clash. This applies equally to Windows' own drivers. What you need to do is to have the BT device connected, then go to control panel - system - hardware - device manager and uninstall all drivers you find there. Then reboot, and install Bluesoleil. Make sure you ONLY use Bluesoleil to transfer files to the GPS, not Windows Explorer or any other Windows program.

Hi Sallyann,
First question ... how can you be certain that the Windows Bluetooth drivers have been uninstalled? From my experience when trying to remove any Windows drivers it's hard to tell where they are located and then, when you think you've found them, it turns out they aren't where you think they are (if you follow me )!
Second question ... are you saying that regardless of which brand of Bluetooth USB adaptor you use, BlueSoleil still works with it?

First question, the driver files won't be entirely removed from the disk, but that's OK. The important thing is that the record within the Registry that associates them with the dongle is removed. For that to happen you must have the dongle active with the old drivers when you use the Device Manager. That's why I said make sure it's connected.
Second question, I've not idea which dongles work with it but you might find out from the BlueSoleil web site. I bought a cheap BT2 dongle from Maplin because my old BT1.2 wouldn't work, and I made sure to choose one that came bundled with BlueSoleil.

My Bluetake "dongle" must be a couple of years old now but it works with BlueSoleil. Don't know if it's BT1 or 2. It's good sense though, if buying new, to choose one with BlueSoleil included.
I've noticed the last few times that I've used it that I can ignore pairing requests from the MIO and it's not asking for a pass key. I just double click the Mio device (shows as headphones) on the BlueSoleil main window which highlights the facilities available and then double clicking the File Transfer icon brings up the transfer window, explorer style. _________________ Reg |

OK folks, I don't know how it happened but persistence pays off ... I have at last managed to create a password connection between my Belkin BT and my PC. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Incidentally, this is without BlueSoleil which doesn't recognise the Belkin dongle (it has its own software).
I shall no doubt be back again with another question but at least I know where to come ... it's a useful forum even though you can't edit your messages once they've been dispatched (point taken, Palexr?)

Works for me but I don't think you can do much from the Mio it has to be from the PC side as far as I can see. I could be wrong it has been known :-) _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

Well , just tried dongle and blue soleil software on wifes laptop and it works perfect , so I'm wondering what is / isn't on mine that is stopping it working? |

The usual problem is that the new software conflicts with the original Windows bluetooth software, which is very primitive in comparison with blue soleil but doesn't like to be overwritten. You should try going through Control Panel to 'Remove Hardware', NB you must have the dongle plugged it for this to work. Then reboot and do a fresh installation making sure that you install the blue soleil drivers not the Windows ones.
Alternatively, if you were only going to use bluetooth to transfer files, use the 'Mio Transfer Hack' which is easier and quicker.
