|

Hi...sorry to be so dopey, but I'm just plain stuck.
I've downloaded a bunch of the zipped files found here:
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56474
They downloaded fine. Then, I downloaded POIEdit, found here:
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=61202
But when I tried to open the files with POIEdit, it keeps saying they're not a valid .XML file. I've tried to convert them from .CSV to .XML but the best I can do is make them .XLS.
Help! What am I doing wrong? Can anyone either give me a step-by-step, or point me to a link for dummies like me?
Hugs

Thanks for the reply.
I can see in POIEdit where thay have a conversion function, that will convert files into the TomTom format.
And if I could just get those .CSV files converted into .OVR I'd be set. But that's where I'm hitting a wall.
Again, if this is too basic, I apologize. I'm pretty tech savvy, but this one's got me stumped.
Hugs

Have to admit, I've tried opening some POI files directly from that site in POI Edit without any luck too.
If you have Microsoft Excel, you can try this....
1 ) Open the .csv file in Excel
2 ) Rearrange / merge the columns so there are just three: Longitude, Latitude, description. (For UK POIs that means the first column will be numbers around zero and the second column will be numbers around 50)
3 ) Re-save as a .csv in Excel and close it.
4) Try opening it in POI Edit again. Allow it to try different formats (Navman worked for me).
5 ) Once it has managed to open it, save as a TomTom .ov2 in POI Edit.
6 ) Load ov2 file (and the original .bmp icon file that came with the download) into the map folder on your TomTom.
7 ) In Preferences / Manage POI, enable the new category in the list. |

Thank you thank you thank you!
I actually got a few to work!
But some, as you said, just won't. The ones posyed by 'mors' must be unique to the Garmin or Navman format....they won't, won't, won't convert.
But the ones by 'Redcloud?' NP. Perfect.
So, I appreciate your help. At least I know how to do it, thanks to you!

Hugs much appreciated, its been a hard day!
It's a weird one, though, isn't it?
Anyone with (more than my one day's) experience of POI edit out there who can shed any light on it? |

Thank you so much! I'll be glad to send you the file.
Is there a way to send files through the site?
If not, I can send it to your email....I couldn't see an email address in your profile, so I listed mine in my profile, just for you.
If you send me a note, I'll attach the file when I return to you.
This is so sweet of you...and if you can actually make the Starbucks poi list work with the 910, I'll be sure to share with everyone here.
You're the best!
Hugs

Right. I've had a look at the File. The problem is that there are a lot of non-text characters present. I found out what they were and removed them with a Hex Editor.
Also in TT only 1 line of text is allowed. The file had up to 4 lines, like an address label. So that had to be sorted. There where several problems with an excess of Speech Marks. _________________ Richard
