Hey,
I bought my first satnav product yesterday, and was looking forward to using it today. Not to go anywhere of course, just to play around with it checking routes I already do.... Until it's needed properly.
Problem is although the 530 seems to work fine, I can't get the SmartST software to install. Using XP SP2, I get to the first License agreement, click agree and next. It gets to the second one, I click agree and next. Some files are extracted, the egg timer icon appears for 5 seconds, and the whole thing freezes. Won't do anything more than that. No idea what the problem is. And won't stop without using task manager.....
Anybody any idea about how to progress??
Have tried it both my laptop and desktop and get the same problem. So it doesn't seem to be an error with the computer.
Cheers. |

Dont know if this may help but it worked for me when a new game would not load on to my pc . Try copying the complete cd to your hard drive and then run it from the setup from the hard disc as opposed to the cd or dvd rom. |

Sounds like there is a bit of a problem with the CD. Try cleaning it or else back to the supplier for another. _________________ Navman ICN 520

You probably think I've missed the point but you do know that the 530 comes with the software and the maps already in flash memory, don't you?
Therefore I can't understand what it is you are trying to do. If it didn't work "out of the box" once you've given it some charge, then there is a problem with the system that will need a return to supplier.
A reinstall of the software from CD is effectively overwriting what is already there. |

The navman 530 comes with the UK pre loaded. The CD comes with the maps for the rest of europe. I'm trying to install the smartst software so that I can transfer europe onto an SD card and also download a POI database with speed cameras on.....
Doesn't seem to be a problem with the CD, as it's spotless. Simply a problem with the software. Really flaky.
Same problem as this guy

but obviously with my 530 rather than 510. |

This is a long shot and I don't know for sure if its applicable here, try logging in to the PC as Administrator, I have had problems with access rights with other software that fail on the installer if you are not logged in this way, its worth a try - Mike |

Don't know if this will help but I also had problems loading Smart ST on my pc running under Windows 2000. The program would start to load and then seemed to just hang.
I ended up loading Smart ST on a pc which is still running Windows 98 and everything worked fine until I wanted to load Europe maps through a USB card reader which Windows 98 wouldn't recognise.
Back I went to the Windows 2000 pc, closed the firewall and antivirus and tried to load the software. Part way through it seemed to hang, no response from anything so in frustration I left it and went off to do something for 10 minutes and when I came back it had loaded and has worked great ever since.
No idea why leaving it alone for so long worked but have you tried leaving it for 10 minutes? I guess I was just being impatient the first few times I tried. Oh, and I also downloaded a newer version of MSActiveSync from Microsoft and installed that (before installing Smart ST I think).
Hope that helps. |

THANKS!
Closed the firewall, turned off the virus checker, downloaded the newest version of activesync from the MS website, and it now works no worries. No idea what the problem was, but it's now solved, so who cares??
Cheers for all the help guys. |
