Hi
I am looking for a multi purpose SatNav System and am finding it hard to sort out what I need.

I am about to upgrade my iPAQ to an HX4700. I am looking for a SatNav system to work with this and perform the following:-

In Car turn by turn / fast updated / 7 digit postcode searchable/ street navigation
as well as...........

Fully Portable / bluetooth / UK & Ireland maps / both city and off road / gps location system.

Can anyone please advise as to the best compatable systems and the best hardware required along with any experiences in purchasing and using the kit ?
Many Thanks
Smile

I personally prefer TomTom Navigator 5.xx. Although I think that it’s too small a scale/zoom level to read the street names in the Navigation view on an hx4700 because the hx4700 is a true VGA machine. I use TomTom on a QVGA PocketPC.

If you desperately need Ireland then forget TomTom. You’ll need a street routing application that uses up-to-date Navteq maps such as AA Navigator.

If you want off road GPS location then you’ll need a Topographical application in addition to a street roughing application.

Certainly get a Bluetooth GPS receiver, the GlobalSat BT-338 is an excellent one as it has long battery life, a removable battery (to reset the unit), and SiRF Star III Chipset.

I’m not a fan of the hx4700 for SatNav applications. I don’t like the VGA and I don’t like the pad and the buttons. My favourite PocketPC, for SatNav, is the old iPAQ h2210, which is a QVGA PocketPC and sadly no longer made.

Regards,

Hi Robert
Many thanks for your reply - lots of info there which I think I'll have to digest. Might change my mind about the iPaq -
:D
