The easy way is to use a TransFlash to SD card addaptor, have a look at Maplins code number A71FC, but if you need to purchase a new card they sell Trans Flash supplied complete with an addaptor (thats how I got mine), simply insert the Transflash card into the addaptor, then insert the assembly into the SD slot of your new card reader - Mike |

This is a small reader which is only for micro SD cards, and doesn't need an adaptor.
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_5&products_id=101210
It's on offer at £2.99, but delivery's £3.95. However, I never have any trouble finding loads of other bargains in 7dayshop's specials and clearance lines to make the P&P charge worthwhile. :D _________________ Anita

Had to come out of the kitchen to go to work, but I'm on my way back there now. _________________ Anita

That looks like it will do the job. I have plenty of readers, just not for Trans flash. The one I bought made no mention of adapter, just that it would work with them.
It is very much like the other link posted.
Thanks.

i brought micro sd card from 7day and it came with a sd adapter ?
have also brought a bigger memory micro sd card and tried to copy original data on to it but you cannot do this as gamin have put some sort of security on it to stop you from copying it?
i think you can get a bigger memory card with mapping on it from gamin but it costs you |

You cannot copy the card on to a larger one it is Secure and locked, but if you need a card to insert into one of the newer i3 devices then a purchased card will work for POI/ Voice files etc. (the maps are contained within the device), therefore the slot is vacant for expansion/ customisation related files once equipped with a card - Mike |

Got the adapter from Maplins, and it works fine.
Now for some voices. :-) |

Curious now,
I backed up the card to my laptop, then followed the instructions to change the voices. Loaded back onto the card OK.
I currently only have that card, and it is so small I almost lost it just going to Maplins.
Surely if I bought a new card for this reason, I could restore all the files from my laptop onto the new card and use this?. The fact that it would likely be larger should be immaterial.?
TIA

The newer i3 units have a vacant transflash slot which can be used, the earlier units had the maps loaded onto the card supplied with the device, you cannot copy the supplied card as it doesn't work.
Adding the card to a newer i3 gives you more data storage options, there are loads of posts about this within the Garmin i3/ Street Pilot forum -
I hope this answers you question - Mike |

My i3 came with the maps on the card. I've just copied that to my PC. From the comments so far does this I can't copy it to, say, a 512MB card?
Thanks

Simon | Give it a try, you will find it simply doesn't work - been there got the tee shirt so to speak, if the upgrade from vs7 to vs8 maps were simply a download and re-write to the card we wouldn't have had to send the transflash card back to Garmin to be upgraded (free of charge I might add) - Mike |

Examining my card I have
Folder Voice with multiple vpm files in it.
Folder Poi with file Poi.gpi in it
Files gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp.unl
So do I have a new i3 or not. Bought about May this year.
TIA
