|
|
Need help quickly please. I backed up my TT One on my PC and used the card for a camera. Now I want to restore the card, so I plug it into my PC, run the CDrom and check "restore", but I just get the message that it is unable to do so. Curiously, when I look for the folder it's backed it up into on my PC, the folder is called TomTom GO. Could it be that it is looking for the wrong folder? Should I remname the folder? And is this just (yet another!) little thing about the one that irritates me and I'll have to learn to live with?!?
(PS sorry for urgency but I need my TT this morning!) |

Forget the restore for now. Open the TT1 folder on your PC, if everything is there, connect your TT to your PC, make sure the card is empty, then just select all of the file and drag and drop the the TT. |

Thanks - that has worked, but too late and I had to resort to the A-Z and arguing with my wife. Just like the good old days!
Very irritating though. (Not being able to restore properly, not the wife. Well, maybe a bit.) |

Hi to all.
On a similar subject. I want to put a bigger SD card in my other half's TT One.
When I copy my original back up to the new card the unit does not work.
Do I have to activate the maps on the new card in any way?
I didn't think I had to.

No you dont.
The two most common mistakes I've seen here that happen again and again are not to copy all the files because you dont have 'show hidden files' ticked in explorer, or to copy the files to a folder on the PC, and then copy the folder back (rather than just its contents.).
Whats actually on the card? Is it a single folder called 'tomtom backup' or similar?
Oh yeh there isa third common mistake (thanks to Tomtom) if you backed up the card using the tomtom software it doesnt always seem to copy the map files. How big are the files on the SD card? Should be 100Mb plus. If its really small you dont have the map files probably because they werent backed up...how did you do your backup?.

Hi Tumbleweed.
Thanks for the advice.
It was all copied to PC correctly, including maps.
Then only the contents of my back up folder were copied to the new card.
It was the 'hidden folders' that caused my problem.
Won't be forgetting that in a hurry.
Now all working tickety boo. :D
Many thanks.
CeeJay. |

If anyone else hasn't done this change to Windows default behaviour, I'd suggest you do it now, it can save a LOT of confusion.
In Windows Explorer (or My Computer) go to:
Tools / Folder Options / View tab
In the Advanced Settings box, find and select "Show hidden files and folders"
and on the next line down UN-tick "Hide extensions for known file types".
This can be left as the default setting and Windows won't lie to you (quite so much!) any more. |

Good advice, those settings cause a multitude of errors. This message should be made sticky IMHO.

If you copy FROM the Go to the PC, will the hidden files thing cause a problem, or is it only from the PC back to the Go? I'd imagine both ways?
If it's both ways then my backups aren't complete - glad I read this
Having said that, I moved the contents of my go to a bigger SD as a test and it worked, without "show hidden files" turned on. I wonder why it worked? |

it works both ways (since the issue is just what files will be displayed and thus what will be selected ). But if its not an issue moving them from the Go to the PC because its set correctly, its unlikely to be an issue the other way, unless you reset the flag in between. |
