I think I was having the same problem as well with both a BC307 and BC337 - infact I bought the newer GPS because I thought there was a problem with my hardware but find the same problem on both so now thinking this is a TomTom 5 software fault - I found using a different pocket PC program you can lock on very quickly and then start TomTom 5 and you're good to go within seconds, but don't know why - I'm wondering if it's because WAAS mode gets enabled by default in TomTom 5.

This has been discussed by myself and others a number of times in the forum if you do a search for it. I think something changed in the GPS driver that tomtom used in V5 and now CF GPS cards perform badly. I tried everything and in the end gave up and bought a bluetooth GPS.
