|
|
Hi,
For a Garmin i3, would you use the Speed Zoned or Conolidated Type?
Or Both?
If you put the Speed Zoned on, is there a chance that not all cameras will be shown???
I have been reading "What camera database categories do I need?" but I find it very confusing.
Can someone help?
Cheers. |

to the forum Jack,
both Speed Zoned or Consolidated contain the same amount of camera location data.
The difference is that consolidated has the cameras devided into 5 distinct groups while speed zoned from memory is in 24.
Either will provide warnings i use the Consolidated.
Scroll down halfway on the following page for full details:

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the welcome Timber, and thanks to you both for the responses.
I read through the appropriate documentation as pointed out by Timber, but I can't understand what the differance between the two are?
What would be the differance in results if I use one or the other???
Can you please explain it to me, sorry I am new to all this Speed Camera business.
Cheers |

There is no difference regarding the warning received. The difference is that with the speed zoned every camera type has its own poi icon (24 bmp files) which will be displayed on your gps.
These icons display in some cases the speed in very small lettering (btm right hand corner) which on the I3 screen would be difficult to see.
When used on other gps systems (not the I3) the speed zoned files can be associated with sound files to give a warning exactly matching the camera type.
So for your I3 load the Speed Zoned see how you get on, then for a change load the consolidated you will probably not notice any difference |

Ahhhhh, now that makes much more sense!
You should re-write the "What camera database categories do I need?" section!
Anyways, basically I loaded a database on my Garmin, I obtained the database from a P2P program called eMule, im sure you all know it.
Anyways, I searched for Garmin speed camera database and the one I downloaded had various subfolders for various types of systems, such as Tom Tom, Garmin etc.
The Garmin Folder contained a number of sub folders one was Zoned, one was POI Loader and one was Single File.
There are no help files etc with this and I assumed it was your database because POCKETGPS_ proceeds all the file names.
Actually I typed up pocketgps safety camera database in Google and you guys were in the first two results and I put two and two together from the name?
Is this one of your databases then?
Basically the reason I am asking is that I want to obviously get updates in the future and subscribe to the correct place, I downloaded this database as a test because the guys at work are all talking about speed camera databases on their navigational units, so I got the urge to try before I buy, if you know what I mean. So far it works really well, so subscribing is the next step.
If you could tell me if this is your database I would appreciate it.
Let me know.
Cheers |

None - probably because we are all stunned that you have stolen this site's database (that is what illegal peer to peer downloading is) and now want our help in getting it working. There is no such thing as "try before I buy" with this database - it is not shareware. If you had wanted to try it legitimately all you need have done was pay a measly £2 for a month's subscription
Sorry if that sounds a bit hostile, but I suggest you will get a better response when you start paying for the database you are asking question about, like the rest of us do. _________________ Peter

Hi Mate,
Nope I didn't "intentionally" steel this sites database, no way!
I downloaded "A" speed camera database from a P2P network.
I didn't ask for help setting it up, I asked what the difference was between zoned files etc.
AND
If I was such a dishonest person I wouldn't have bothered trying to find the creators of the database and ask them if it was theres so that I can pay or future releases legelly, so that I am getting updates for the correct database.
Surely you can see that?
At the end of the day I wouldn't come on the forum and tell you I was stealing your database if that was my intention.
Sorry to hear about your keyboard TImber! ah ah! Those darn keyboards are a nightmare sometimes.
So is it your database or isn't it?
Cheers |

Oh well guess I'll try and find other database creators and see if it is theirs.
Thanks anyway. |

I suggest you should read again the first sentence of my previous post to get your answer. Good luck with your search for other databases. _________________ Peter
