Considering changing the 168, once a week it needs a soft reset, after which 'NO MAPS' is displayed. Has anybody any experience with the Mio P350 using 5.210 software. My other thought was forgetting TomTom altogether and getting the Mio C710 when available, any experience with Mio Maps ? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Before changing your MIO168 simply because you need to do a soft reset every week, I would consider why you need to do a soft reset first. It is possible that your PPC may be ready for a hard reset, and have everything loaded back in from scratch.
However, I know that there is a problem with the initial version of Windows mobile 2003, which is exacebated every time you do a soft reset; see http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html for an explaination and solution. |

Hi Neil01, thanks for the reply,
I had to do a hard reset several weeks ago which could have been a disaster, however I had backups. doing the soft reset is not a problem, its the fact that after the reset the TT cannot find its maps, this happened in France last week, once again could have been a disaster but I had a backup SD card. I have had the 168 for approx 2 years now and felt like a change.

xantia, it would probably be best to do a hard re-set and then re-install everything from your original CD's. If you use a card reader to install the maps it shouldn't take too long to get up and running without further problems.
Just download and save the 5.21 update and don't forget to put an empty folder on your SD Card and name it tomtom, for the full postcode search to work. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Hi Lost-Property, thanks for your input. I think that the 'hanging' problem I have with the 168 may be more to do with the hardware rather than TT. Thats why I was considering replacing with a Mio P350, however untill I can find someone (a pathfinder) who has changed to a P350 using TT application & Maps of Western Europe on CD's I will struggle on with the 168. I go to France again in three weeks and will make sure I have several SD copies of France and the POI's.
Thanks Again

Hi Mikealder, thanks for the link, from what I understand from SODBURY 3472, they are using TomTom 5.210 on a SD Card, and they are only using U.K. maps, I have the initial version of TomTom5 supplied as an upgrade last year on CD to this I have downloaded & installed 5.210, I also have maps of Western Europe also on CD's. I am aware that the P350 is being 'bundled' with TT5 but this is with 5.210 on a SD card. Am I right in thinking that tha download is only an upgrade to the original version or is it a full version in it own right ??
Thanks to all for the help

The download is the full application as a standalone programe, so you can install this without needing the previous version loaded - Mike |
