The ONE is not 'newer' than the 500. They both run concurrent. The 500 has BG-Plus Map the ONE has GB Map.

The 500 has the faster processor, just, running at 400MHz (the ONE is 380MHz). Not a lot of difference.

You can make 'phone calls with the 500. The ONE is smaller and lighter.

The ONE has the better GPS Receiver, which makes for better working when reception is not so good.

If you want to compare, the ONE details can be found here, and the 500 here.

The One is newer than the 500, The One's map is a newer version than was released on the 500, (although you dont get the plus map on the One) the One use's a more advanced GPS antenna although the One's processor is slightly slower although only by 20 MhZ but if your getting a TomTom you might want to consider getting a 510, 710 or 910 these all have the latest maps etc and more
