There is no such thing as the best device for every use. How do you want to use it? Off road, in car, or both? If in car how do you want it to interface with your car? What part of the world do you live in? Do you want intuitive to use or comprehensive? Do you want to log where you have been or not. And so the list goes on. _________________ Peter

thank you for your immediate responses. You are right there is not the perfect device. What about a device that have best performance comparing with the old models, faster processor, better software, reliable gps. I would like to use it mainly as GPS and secondly as a pocket pc. I dont care if it is a cell phone as well. I am going to use it both off road and in the car. I live in Europe but right now I am working in Middle East. Any suggestions for the device? |

Welcome gerolykos
I admit I am a fan of Mio. I use a 168 for personal use which has proved reliable and is nice to use (nicer than the Ipaq I use for work) but is now a bit outdated and been replaced by the A201. This has a Sirf 3 GPS and bluetooth. The relatively new A701 and also includes an integrated phone, a faster chip but a smaller screen.
If these are better than the 168 I have (and they should be) I would have no problem recommending them.
If I were to upgrade soon I would probably go for an A701 (less boxes to carry as it includes the phone) with an alternative software (like Destinator6) that included lifetime TMC.
Good luck with your choice.

Yes, and you can even benefit from the built in TMC receiver. In Europe, that is.
Don't understand your map question. With Destinator you have to use Destinator maps. _________________ Lutz

Another to look at.
One of the latest from Mio is the P350, have a look here http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/m-mio-r-pda-with-integrated-gps-rel.html £179. Looks a good spec and a vast improvement on my Mio168. If my TTN5 is compatible, I think I'll be getting one.
You'd have to find out which other maps, other than Mio's, will work with the unit and the price. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

What I did, as I already have TTN5, was to check the TomTom site and found the P350 is not yet listed as compatible, then wrote an e-mail to globalpositioningsystems, who I plan to purchase from, and their reply was 'TomTom do not show the Mio P350 as being compatible with TTN5, however tests are being carried out and I should check again at a later date'.
I guess your best bet, unless someone comes up with a better idea or has one up and running, is to find a local outlet and ask them. They may have one set up with Destinator or TomTom. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

I and my friend got the MIO P350 from the Edinburgh Expo from http://www.easydevices.co.uk. to look at it go to http://www.mio-tech.be/products/pda_navigation/P350/specifications.php.
