Garmin Nuvi POI not showing on MAP unless targeted

Recently I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 310 which I am very happy with. However my only complaint is that POI do not show up on the map unless you set them as a target. For example, If I am driving down my local highstreet it was always very useful to have any near POIs flash up. I may not want to visit these places but it was a very useful tool. After all you do not always know what you want to do!. It must be possible as Speed Camera POIs work (although you have the warning beeps) but it must be possible.

Having called Garmin today they have advised that as POI databases are 3rd party software they cannot assist however they did advise it WAS POSSIBLE but just needed someone to setup the database correctly.

I have seen a few threads about this but nothing concrete. I would be more than happy to pay for this POI package if it could be developed and im sure im not alone. This is the only fault I can find with the NUVI 310. I am very pleased with it but this would be a major bonus.

Anyone heard of any POIs that would work in this way for GARMIN?

i know you can get POI, but you have to transfer them to the nuvi alll togeather i.e. sending speed database and say all argos store in one go and then setting then up using the POI loader software.

I know when you zoom into the map it show the petrol pumps, but nothing else i can see off.

i would like it to show more details like Multimap.com i.e. Parking, schools, uni, hospitals, parks etc..

like you said i dont mind paying neither but it has to be part of the map not a POI add on as there do not cover 100%.

if you get the garmin poi loader, when transferring the poi accross using it, it asks you if you want the warning for poi done automatically or manually. If you choose manually, you can then set the distance warning for each poi to alert you when nearby, dont think it shows the icon on the map but says which one near the top of the screen, garmin did say they didnt want loads of icons onscreen at once because this would slow the map down.

We see you’re using an ad-blocker. We’re fine with that and won’t stop you visiting the site.
