Mine is fairly loud but fail to hear directions if i have radio on, even pretty quiet.

Is my device faulty or is this common?

Mine is LOUD.

At motorway speeds with the radio on, 3 tends to be sufficient. Maybe on 4 is the radio / stereo is loud.

5 is too LOUD for me.

Was thinking...do you by any chance use the power lead or batteries, would this make a difference do you think?

On '5' mine is loud (fully charged batteries) but wouldn't say too loud, do you think I could have a faulty product?? When on motorway I have to listen to it quite hard.

Just so you know, on 4, with no backgroud noise, the volume is like a quiet speaking voice. Question

Check here
[http://www.fastmute.de/vers02_engl/index2.php?id=&parent=&versendet=]
Much better with more power and more features.
Designed for any car radio.
You get your voice commands highly amplified (10 W) out of your car speakers.
Ultra fast switching mute generator.
This will off your radio during the voice commands and will switch back to your radio in less than 2s after the voice commands has ended.

:o Turning your i3 upto 11 :o

I can just see the next corsa club craze....

There you are sat at the traffic lights and a 1.2 corsa pulls up next to you with the tish tish tish thud thud thud of the stereo, then a moments pause...... Then ear bleedingly loud.....

TURN LEFT

You then chuckle to yourself as the corsa is inevitably in the wrong lane.

Joking aside, (see my other post for my i3 woes Crying or Very sad ), in my car the i3 seems fairly quiet, but in my wife's car the same i3 is quite loud. So much so that I have to change the volume levels.

The position is about the same, so I can only assume that the shape and material of the dashboard makes a huge difference.

I have an '03 VW Passat soon to be replaced with a shiney new passat in a subtle inky blue I'm not one for loud paint work....

Sorry that's the best I can do......!

Anyway my point being Passat's have quite soft dashboards compared to say one of my colleagues Honda Accord, so I expect it would be by comparison louder in an Accord? Depends on the frequency and tone some may say cord the i3 for example bongs in....

I have my i3 on 4 all the time and it is plenty loud enough.

Do you mount your i3 the same distance from the dash in both cars? I guess the distance from speaker to hard reflective surface will be a big factor in volume, whether that be too close or too far.....
