|
|
I'm in the process of trying to set up my IPAQ 1940 and GPS connection. The instructions say the GPS settings should be set to Baud Rate: 19200 and COM Port 1.
I go into the software and select the following:
Show GPS Status
(Have to select one of the following:
Tom Tom Wireless GPS
Tom Tom Cable GPS
Other Bluetooth GPS
Other Cable NMEA GPS)
I select Other Cable NMEA GPS (I presume this is correct)
Select the Baud Rate of 19200
I then get a screen asking saying "GPS is connected to:
COM3
Bluetooth Serial Port...
Bluetooth Serial Port...
S2410 IRDA2410
S2410 COM0
Serial on USB
As you can see there isn't an option to select COM1. I have tried COM3 but doesn't work.
I have turned the Beam off under Settings, Connections on the IPAQ. I have no idea how to check what COM Ports are being utilised on the IPAQ.
Anyone have any ideas how to get COM1 working?
Many thanks,
Ian |

I presume its a wired GPS? If so try using the TomTom cable GPS option instead of NMEA. It may take a minute or two to pick up the Sats. If the small yellow circle starts spinning you are sorted. |

Yes it is, via a USB to Serial power/data cable. Have tried the TomTom GPS option and still no joy, yellow circle motionless.
I know the com port 1 works as I can use active sync without any issues, could it be that the supplied usb to serial cable is a bit dodgy and not communication between the pda and receiver?
Thanks,
Ian |

Yeah. In the corner of the GPS screen, the blue/yellow quadrant circle is totally motionless, absolutely no indication that it's even trying to connect.
Thanks,

First off try updating the TomTom install to the latest version TTN5,21 its free from www.tomtom.com then try the GPS set-up again. As a real long shot is there any external keyboard software loaded onto the device, or any other peripheral control software that takes over the serial port? the reason I ask is the external keyboard application needs to be selected to IrDA/ Com1 or Keyboard on some devices - Mike |

I had the same problem with an Arkon mount which I solved by selecting TomTom Wired GPS, it also woked on NMEA with a lower Baud rate.
I hope this is of some help to you.
PS: Be patient the first time it seems to take forever to get a fix! _________________ Tom

Hi there,
Did you get any clue that it picked up the GPS unit but was just slow picking up a signal? The reason I ask is that as soon as I select either the TT Wired or NMEA it just says GPS Not Found.
Thanks,

When I get home tonight I will fish it out and try it, I have since stopped using it but it is still in the house. If I do not reply tonight it will be sometime tomorrow.
Take care. _________________ Tom
