|
|
Hi....
I have just bought a Garmin C310 and up to now am delighted with it. I decided to download the speed camera's from here but however much I try I don't seem to be able to get it to work. I'm not sure if I have not downloaded the correct info or if I am just doing something wrong with the info that I have downloaded. I have managed to download POI's without a problem and they all appear on the C310. Does the C310 show in some way that you have downloaded speed camera's into it so that you are aware that the info is indeed loaded in it? I do notice however that the instructions for the camera download on the readme part that downloads is different to what some instructions are elsewhere on here. I don't claim to be into computer's that much but am getting to the point where I think I will have to forget the camera's and use the C310 without them.
It mentions the mapsource and to select 'Safety Cameras UK/EURO 4.XXX' but I have never found this! Where do I find it? Perhaps I need a good pair of glasses! I appreciate to some people this is all a doddle and no doubt there are lot's of you saying the silly old fart can't do a simple camera download!
One other thing I'm not sure about is the way the C310 warns you about the speed camera's....I have read that it doesn't alert you unless you are travelling faster than the speed limit but then somewhere else I read that it does alert you no matter what speed you are travelling. Which is correct? I recall on my ex-wife's Tom Tom it has a Star Trek type warning whenever you get near a speed camera and at whatever speed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Mate
the speed camera icons do not appear unless you are exceeding the speed lilmit but it does give an audible tone when you are approaching a speed zone with a camera in that zone the cameras should appear as a cutom POI in my locations
have you updated all the software from the garmin site using their web updater I also have the same model and chose the speed zone database which loaded and works perfectly
look forward to your reply |

Hi Sherman,
Many thanks for the info which is a big help to me. I bought the Garmin C310 from Halfords after looking at reviews on the net which said how good it is, however, the salesman in the shop said it was naff and said a Tom Tom was the way to go, but I decided to stick with my decision to buy the Garmin and I really like it. I only bought it on Monday and did all the registration stuff with Garmin but it didn't seem to want any updates to it's software. When I go into system on the C310 and press 'about' it says the software is version 5.10. When I have downloaded loads of POI's into the PC and then add the speed camera info I can see all the icons on the PC screen, it all seems to be there. However, when I use the POIloader they all seem to go over to the C310 but when I look at My Locations and select custom POI there is nothing about camera's. All the other info is there, train stations, McDonalds, lot's of locations but no camera's.
I still don't understand what the Mapsource the readme bit is all about, there is nothing I have found called that where I am looking on the PC. I thought the POIloader did all of that but it would appear not, or have I got it all wrong? Thanks again for your help!

Hi Sherman
Ok this time it is success!!! I downloaded the camera data again and decided to just put that in to the C310 and not bother with any other POI's. Ok, I have lost quite alot of places but I'm not too worried about the fact that I now don't have all the Tesco or Morrison sites on the unit...but I do have the camera's. They came straight up in the Custom POI's so just need to have a drive by a camera to make sure it is all up and running. Thought I had better let you know it's all working. Thanks again. Take it easy!
