Hi,

I wonder if there is such a thing as a magnet based holder either a generic one for all GPS devices, or maybe a GPS device which comes with one.

I am currently using a PDA, using a holder which I plug on the windscreen.
In conjunction I have one of the latest Tomtom bluetooth GPS receiver, this little device is magnetised somehow and all I need is to put it on top of a magnet which is on my dashboard and the GPS seats there quite nicely!

I just think this is the easiest and quickest way of taking my GPS receiver on and off the dashboard.

The question is, I now want to buy an all in one GPS system (i.e.: Garmin Nuvi, Tomtom GO, etc), is there anyway to get a similar magnet system?
I could probably do one myself... but ... huh... well... I am a bit worry about playing with magnet if the device uses hardisk/memory cards and hasn't been designed with relevant protections.

Cheers,
Sylvain.

A magnet/steel holder may be ok for a light item (like the old TomTom receiver you have - the newer version doesn't have a magnet any more). But for the heavier items like the GOs you'd need a really strong magnet which might really affect the hard disk in the 700 and 910 models, not to mention the speaker.

Garmins should be ok, they are relatively lighhtweight.
