TomTom announces new TomTom RIDER with maps of Western Europe
~Innovative mounting kit enables in-car use~
Amsterdam, 15 May 2006 – TomTom, the leading navigation solution provider today announces the new European version of the TomTom RIDER, the portable all-in-all navigation solution designed for motorbikes and scooters. With updated software, the new TomTom RIDER enables easy navigation throughout all of Western Europe, pre-installed on a SD card.

Are TomTom moving to using Navteq maps now then?
No.
TomTom have always used Navteq maps for the Rider and have no intentions to expand the coverage to their other products. _________________ Mike Barrett

Is the new car mount going to have a loudspeaker?
To me, the quote "...that enables users to instantly transform the TomTom RIDER into an in-car navigation solution." says it should.
Can't see any mention of it on TT's website yet (no surpises there!), but the section for the Rider now refers to "Rider (Local)" whatever that means, and in the accessories there is a car mount but that says it needs the blootooth headset for the audio.

That seems like a pretty good idea to me. I like the look of the RIDER a lot, so it's nice to see them providing a new option and obviously listening to the needs/wants of their customers.
So why was the European rider in the list of Products on TomTom's website earlier this week but has now gone?
Why are most retailers still getting away with asking £500+ for TomTom when it's the Local, not the European? (Some still want £600).
OK, I bought a UK one for £370 this week, and I'm happy with it, but plenty of buyers won't research the prices (e.g. £499 at Argos!) and this new European version will only cause price/spec confusion.
As for the car mount - not in stock, and it's been listed for a long time. Are they saying they're finally actually going to make it available?
I like their products, but their planning shows a certain relaxed attitude, shall we say...
Im really annoyed and disapointed. I recently bought a rider before the price drop. It was a real struggle to justify the money and to pay for it. Now i find that i could of saved a hundred pounds or for the same money got one with full european maps and v6 firmware!!!!
