|
|
Hello ,
I've started using EASYGPS to back up and load in new Favourites to my i3. 8)
On the right of the screen, the map is blank, but shows my favourites. i.e. there are no roads or landscapes.
Is there a UK map available for EASYGPS, or is this a silly question
Thanks for your help. _________________ Nuvi 660, VW GOLF

I wondered about the map on EasyGPS when I looked at the application.
The files that download with EasyGPS include an example of a walking route that shows up with a topographical map on the screen. So there must be some way to load a map. |

Yes they do
I e-mailed EasyGPS about this and got a reply from Dan Foster last week:
Quote: | EasyGPS shows a plot of your GPS data over a white background.
If you'd like to see your GPS data plotted over a topo map, aerial photo, or your own scanned trail map, try http://www.expertgps.com |
I then asked him:
Just to clarify, you said "You can scan your paper OS maps and use them with ExpertGPS.". Is that the only way to get UK maps into ExpertGPS? I note the instructions for Expert GPS refer to ability to download maps etc from internet sites. Does this cover UK maps, (and if so which map sources/websites does it use?), or is this feature only available for maps covering the USA?
Dan replied:
Quote: | The automatic downloading and display of topo maps and aerial photos is limited to the USA. For all other parts of the globe, you must provide your own maps in jpeg, bmp, tif, or a similar image format.
Some countries provide maps in these formats, however I have never seen an OS map available this way (due to copyright restrictions), so you'll probably have to scan your own paper maps.
|
So, in conclusion, it looks like with the free EasyGPS you are stuck with the plain white background. If you live in the USA, then you could upgrade to the paid for ExpertGPS which DOES allow you to import maps from certain websites, or allows you to scan in maps. _________________ Garmin i3 bought May 06 from www.comet.co.uk for £129.99

Not true for UK maps, as highlighted in my post above. You can only get US maps for ExpertGPS - at least that's what their support told me. _________________ Garmin i3 bought May 06 from www.comet.co.uk for £129.99

Your original post was not shown when i replied therefore i stand corrected regarding UK mapping (still valid re: US) and would agree with your comments and that of the easygps representative. |

That'll be a no then.
Oh well.
Maybe a later version of Google earth might do the job. _________________ Nuvi 660, VW GOLF
