GPS Software to do Road and Topo?

I'm new to current GPS, used the original Mil Magellian years ago. I have a new iPAQ 2215 with a Ambicom CF GPS. The GPS card came with Pocket Map, this software has been wholey unimpressive and I'm looking buy a good all around software package.
I will use the GPS in my truck to navigate both street and trail, and will use it on my KTM Dualsport moto to do the same.
I was looking at the Routis 2004 software which seems to be a very nice GPS for the street.
Does this software work with Topos?
Do I have to buy two different software packs?

Your expert advice is appreciated.

no, Routis won't work for outdoors, and yes, for the time being you will have to get two separate packages. This is simply due to the fact that topo maps are raster maps and street maps are vector maps. We see some efforts underway to combine these two very different philosophies but I think this will take a few more months to really become available. Topo maps are by desgign much, much heavier on the data side ( the street map of TomTom for the UK is 89 MB, and the topo maps of the same area are easily exceeding 6 GB...
