Etrex Legend USB connection problem

Ive just built a new PC and Im trying to connect my Legend via a USB/serial converter cable as the pc has no serial port. Windows XP will not recognise the USB device and of course Mapsource wont see it.
The odd thing is it works perfectly well on my laptop!
any ideas?

Have you tried Garmin FAQ Here ? particularly "MapSource and the Updater programs will only recognize ports 1 through 8".
f you have no luck you may have to put in a Serial port Pci card .

all sorted, I googled for "USB serial converter driver" and installed the first one that came up and bingo it works, all connected now and transferring data.
