ICN 530 Questions

I am new to SatNav but opted to buy the new ICN530. A couple of questions though.
1. Why doesn't the next turn indication appear in the top left corner in 2D map mode. It shows it in the manual. In 3D mode the next turn indicator is present okay.
2. In 3D map mode why is it that sometimes I cannot adjust the horizon by sliding the stylus over the screen.

I have noticed the two above anomalies whilst playing around with the unit in my lounge where I still have a good satellite fix and can set a route okay. Do you have to be on the move for these functions to work properly ?
