Hi
As you say it is illegal in France to posses a detector in a vehicle, even if it’s not in use.
As the amount of fixed cameras that I have come across is less than hand held units, is it necessary to have them.
As I have no info on French motor law, I would expect the same as in the UK.
Your GPS IS NOT A DETECTOR. So it cannot pick them up.
My advice to you is, abide by the laws of the country you are in. as you will stick out like a sore thumb. (A right hooker with UK plates) Remove your French Detector POI’s from your GPS (you can always put them back on when you return), but do you need them if you do not use them.
The only issue that I am aware of is Spain, as you are not able to have any imaging units in a vehicle that can been seen by the driver, I do not know if this includes GPS systems or only apply to DVD units and TV’s.
Regards

Do you have a reliable POI file with the fixed speed cameras in France right now. I had a look round a few months ago and was unable to find one.
Cheers
