My dad has just bought one and he used it for the first time today and its already told him the wrong way to his destination twice and sent him down a no entry road.
What would cause this? |

The "No Entry" is simple to explain. There are, and always will be, map errors. There is a reporting system, but as they depend on two mapping companies, who in turn depend on local authorities etc for their information, all sat nav systems will have occasional problems.
The "wrong way" is more vague. What do you mean by "wrong way" exactly. The TomTom will offer the "shortest" (ie most direct) route it can find, or the "fastest" (using its own algorythm of which roads will be most suitable). If you know a better route, its up to you to use it!  |

Good point, the TT is never going to beat local knowledge, but it will get you there when you dont know the area, which is the important thing.
FWIW I find 'shortest route' to be a complete waste of time as it will take you down the smallest most obscure roads to save a few inches. It may be he has this set (as its first on the list)its probably the option most likely to send you the 'wrong way' as it will be trying smaller roads which are more likely to be wrong on the map.
