Good morning people, another annoying newbie here.

Im looking for some expert advice and this is the only real professional looking site i can find.

Me and my friend bought this morning went out and bought a GARMIN streetpilot i3 each. Iv got to say im very pleased with it so far and it coped well with the trek back from the shops well. Straight out of the box aswell! AMAZING!

Anyway i want to get it updated so its running the latest firmware and that it has the ability to inform me of speed traps. I have a snooper s4 and the updates were plug and click so if this is as good it will make that unit redundant!

Im looking about so excuse my ignorance but apart from updating the:

FIRMWARE and getting the SPEED CAMERA POI's is there anything else which is mandatory when people are kitting there machines up?

I currently am running software version 2.60 and Audio Version 2.00

------------------------

My friends TOMTOM 500 has john cleese giving the audio directions? anything like this available for the garmin?

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! I LOVE THIS LITTLE MACHINE!!!

ian

Speed Cameras. Sign up using http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/subscription.php

As for the Firmware, there are several newer version than 2.6.

Personally i'm sticking with 2.7 becuase i have issues with the 2.9 and 3.0 releases.

The latest software is always at http://www.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00434-00

But older versions can be found at http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/streetpilot/sp_ix/

You might also want to look these sites for other Non Speed Camera POIs.

Also the StreetPilot forum is http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=96 where you can get more information specific to the StreetPilot range including the i3.

OK fank you so far guys! ive uploaded to the latest v3 and ive downloaded my essential wifi spots and macdonalds locations!

Im going to sort the speed cameras out 2mrw when i find my paypal details but i was just wondering:

The speed camera alerts-

-do they bleep too alert you?

-do you have to search for them each time or is it automatic within a giving radius? (as opposed for the POI mac donalds for example, that you have to search for using the menu)

Last thing-

Can you get john cleese or yoda to give you directions on the garmin i3? or is this only for the big spending tomtom people!

thankyou in advance ian

The speed camera alerts-

You get an alert as you approach the camera and then it continues to BONG you if you are over the speed limit. If you drop under (or already) under the limit you will not hear / see anything. However there are tools available on this forum that can alter this behaviour. You don't have to search it's done as a Proximity Alert (i.e when you get inside a certain range)
