Help needed please. I have recently bought a Mio 168 with a TTN5 SD card with the 5 speed cameras files both bmp and ov (Consolidated version) already loaded in the storage card. I have now downloaded the up-to-date files from pocketgps to my laptop. I have tried to copy and paste the files directly into the great britian map folder while synchonised with my Mio (using the explore button), but I am not sure that the files are going across ok because the files appaer to be identical. I have read info relating to unlocking the SD card and not sure how to unlock. Can anyone please give some advice please.[/url]

With the Mio 168 it's best to download the 23 speed zoned files (actually 23 .bmp and 23 data files).

Once you've downloaded the .zip folder it needs to be unzipped. If you have XP you can double click on the folder, to open it, then on the left hand side of the screen look for Extract Files. Click it and you'll get a new folder.

It's easier if you have a Card Reader, simply select the 46 files, copy and paste into the GB Folder.

If you haven't a card reader, make sure you PDA is synchronised with your Desktop.

Right click on Start (bottom left) and select Explore.

You can now open the unzipped folder and copy then paste to your GB map.

Now disconnect from your Desktop.

Start TomTom and go to Change preferences. Go to page 2 and select Manage POI. Now select Warn when near POI.

Go down the list until you find the 20mph icon and tap on it. Now you can select the warning distance. Tap on Done and choose a warning sound. Tap on Select. On the next page you can tick Warn only if POI is on route. It's best to leave this un-ticked or you won't be warned of any cameras on bridges (i.e. not on route).

Now do the same for 30mph and go down one by one.

You may prefer a different warning sound for Gatso's, Mobiles etc.

You can use the following to work out how far in advance you would like the warning.

Mph - 30s - 20s - 15s - 10secs warning.

80 - 1173- 782 - 587 - 391 yards
70 - 1026 - 684 - 513 - 342
60 - 879 - 586 - 440 - 293
50 - 732 - 488 - 366 - 244
40 - 588 - 392 - 294 - 196
30 - 441 - 294 - 221 - 147
20 - 294 - 196 - 147 - 98

I've jus noticed you said

It's best to delete the old .ov2 and .bmp files and start afresh.

I just copy the new files across and it automatically overwrites the old ones. Surely that is easier?

Yes that's right lupos0_1, but I found when first using the 'new' downloads, I ended up with two of everything, so deleted all the double files and started 'clean'. Since then I've just done a straight copy/paste of the updates as you say.

which I took to mean they had two of everything, hence my recommendation they delete all the old camera files. Smile

8) aloeman, once you've initially done what I suggested, follow lupos0_1's advice and do a straight copy/paste with future downloads.

Thanks for advice. I will give it a go when I get time at weekend. So to clarify, I dont need to worry about unlocking the SD card or the fact that the TTN5 will only allow 40 POI's etc.

The SD Card needs to be 'unlocked'. Infact I never lock mine.

The Safety Camera files won't cause a problem if you have just the POI's that came on the original disks.
There is a free update to TTN5 software v5.21 which you can download from the TomTom site.

If your SD card was locked you would not be able to do what you have done and you wouldnt be able to save things like POIs, previous destinations etc.

The SD card is locked by using the extremely small switch on the side which is effectively a "write protect" switch.

I normally advise using a card reader, but the speed camera files are not very big and I've never had a problem with Active Sync. I unzip the files to a folder on my desktop, highlight the OV2 files about 5 at a time (it won't transfer them all in one go) and drag and drop them into the map folder using Active Sync. I always get a message asking if I want to overwrite the existing files, so I know the new ones are going in. I don't bother to update the bmp files, because they don't change from month to month. The whole process takes about a minute for the complet set of speed zoned files.

That's why I use a Card Reader, it does the lot almost instantly. Smile

That's what I thought. Check how many .bmp's on the latest download v.4.044 :P
