Hi !!

I am new to the world of GPS and i have the TomTom Navigator 2 connected to my HP Jornada 568. I have hard wired it into my car and fitted the passive cradle from brodit. As the speaker on the Jornada is not all that good and when turned up the sound is distorted, my question is, does anybody know if a cable is available so you can connect it to the sound system in the car so the voice prompts come through the cars speakers. any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks.

David,

there are several options available to you

- active mount (includes a speaker) (you'd have to replace your passive mount)
- cassette adapter (if your car stereo still has a cassette)
- direct line in from the Pocket PC's headset port into the car stereo, preferably linked with the Mute function that normally mutes the radio when a cell call is coming in..

Tell us more about your car radio type and we will be able to give more specific advice.

Lutz

David I have the 03 plate, and prefer the FM Modulator route myself. Tune the radio to 89.3 for the South of England and broadcast the Pocket PC over 89.3 to the stereo using an Arkon FM Modulator, but technically these are illegal to operate in the UK, but they only broadcast for around 8-10 feet, so you really aren't going to interfere with any other road users.

Downside is you need to tune the FM band away from a station so you don't get traffic reports, and you can't play the tape deck or CD stack if you have one.

Dave,
this may sound silly but can't you tune the fm modulator to the same channel as your preferred radio station? The modulator should be quiet unless there's a signal in the headset , or?

Arkon do some called Sound Feeder's. They have a powered version or the battery version.

I tend to use the one that comes built into the Arkon CM656 mount.

One thing to be aware of is that sometimes you get bleed over from other FM radio stations, this means you sometimes need to reach down and fine tune the FM modulator to get a crisper sound out of it, otherwise it will start to sound like an AM radio with wining, whistling etc.

I play my MP3's from the iPAQ to the car stereo in this fasion. The other option you may want to look at if you don't want this hassle is the cassette adapter like you get with portable CD players.

Lutz, you can tune the FM Mod to the same frequency as your favourite radio station, the problem is the radio station signal will be much stronger than what the FM Mod can output, so you just won't get any speech from the Pocket PC, or you'll just here a crackle.
