My TTG 700 was delivered today and will replace my Road Angel on the dash. The RA was hardwired and so there is a power supply there. The plug looks as if it will fit. Question

My question is whether the actual cigarette lighter section has any form of trsnaformer which gives the TTG700 a different power to the Road Angel - or do you think I can simply use the Road Angel power.

Advise welcome. Smile

Thank you

Marc

Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation STOP Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

The TomTom cigarette lighter adapter supplies 5 Volts to the Go.
12 Volts WILL kill it immediately.
(Having said that, I've no idea what the Road Angel supply provides.

Take a careful look at everything. There will always be a rating label saying what each unit supplies or expects to recieve (certainly there is a 5 Volt sign on the Go).

Thanks Andy

I have been using the power lead from the TTG until someone replied. Your're right - the power according to the Road Angel mains adapter I have is different (4.5v and 300ma) whereas the TTG is 5v and 2a

Thanks again

Marc

Ahh. If it is less Volts it won't kill the Go. It might not work, but I would have thought that 4.5 Volts will PROBABLY run the Go OK.
However, the current rating of the Road Angel supply is rather low, so it might run out of steam and / or get hot while trying to run or charge the Go.

Don't forget the 700 has a hard drive, which has a motor, and therefore uses a lot more power than the Road Angel.
